St. George is still cold and I’m not okay with it! It’s supposed to be warming up next week and I couldn’t be more excited! With the warmer weather coming, my mind instantly goes to spring cleaning + organizing. It’s the best feeling to have a clean + organized home with the new season. With all the kids home for summer soon, it helps to have a clean home that is easy to maintain! So today on the blog I’m talking all about spring cleaning and sharing 5 tips to help find success in your spring cleaning!

5 SPRING CLEANING TIPS

closet cleaning + organization

: START SMALL

This tip is easier said than done but START LITTLE. Don’t think that you need to do your whole house in one day. Focus on one room a day and start by getting rid of the things you don’t need. Just totally declutter and I promise you that the rest of the cleaning will go smoother. Don’t overwhelm yourself, there is no time limit for when it needs to be done. Start when + where it’s comfortable for you and your schedule.

: SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY

We’ve totally downsized…our house we’re in now is smaller than we’re used to. It’s only 4 bedrooms, and all the kids share ONE bathroom. So, we’ve had to get rid of so much stuff and honestly, my load feels much lighter. I truly believe in “the less stuff you have; the more time you have to do the things you love.” I’ve heard this philosophy many times, so I know I’m not crazy. It truly is easier to spend time with my family when I don’t have to worry about spending hours of cleaning or picking up 100 toys, etc. My kids have played with their toys here SO much more than where we lived before because they have LESS toys. My kids have been completely content with having less toys. It’s been so nice.

So that would be my biggest tip: GET RID OF WHAT YOU DON’T NEED/USE. It will be a game changer for you and your family. I’ve learned that you really don’t need all the things you think you do. You guys know I’m all about simplifying, so just trust me on this one.

: OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

One rule I’ve really been sticking to the past few months is whenever I buy something new, I get rid of something. If I buy 3 swimsuits, I get rid of 3 swimsuits…. that way my closet never gets overcrowded. It helps me evaluate what I’m really willing to get rid of, and how much I should really buy. Same thing goes for your kids’ items. If you get them a new toy, find a toy you can donate or get rid of.

get your kids involved

: INCLUDE YOUR KIDS

Sometimes the thought of tackling spring cleaning on your own is overwhelming! That’s why I’m a big fan of including your kids with the household cleaning. And on top of that, it’s a great opportunity to teach your kids how to properly clean. When cleaning with kids, be sure that you don’t overwhelm them. I like to write down everything that needs to be done that day and have the kids choose what they want to do! This helps them feel responsible with their jobs instead of just being told what to do.

Be sure to make your instructions clear and simple. Help them in the beginning with any questions they might have so they can be confident they’re doing it correctly. Magic Erasers and Clorox wipes are my best friends when teaching my kids to clean.

: GET ORGANIZED

You guys know that I’m so passionate about organizing + keeping things simple! Keeping my home organized helps me be the person + mom I want to be. My 30 Days to an Organized Home course will walk you through how to organize every room, storage space, and every closet! I know organizing can sound daunting, but once you declutter everything you don’t need/use, organizing is so much easier. And be sure to always start small.

Organizing really is my therapy. Having an organized home helps me to have a clear mind. With busy season upon us, organizing is the best way to tackle spring cleaning and create the home YOU want!
