What to Pack in Your Hospital Bag

Harper-birth-kailee-wright

I can not believe that we had our last little babe!! It went by so fast and I’m already sad to think that it’s all over, but so unbelievably happy to have our little Harper girl here and have our family of seven complete! I thought since I’ve been through this just a handful of times that I would share some of my favorite + must have items of what to pack in your hospital bag.

Also, I have been getting a ton a emails asking what I “specifically” love to pack in my hospital bag — so this post is for you friends. Below are some items I have come to need throughout the years with all 5 of my babies in those first few days at the hospital. I hope you love them as much as I do!

And…thank you so much for all your love and support through this crazy + wild journey of ours. You all have been so sweet with your comments and emails since Harpers birth. I’ll be sharing some postpartum essentials on the blog in the next few weeks, so make sure you check back and don’t miss it! Love you all!

FOR MOM

packing bag:  I have loved my Birdling Bag since the day I got it. I’ve had it for a couple years now and I can pack pretty much all the kids for a weekend trip. It seriously is the best + it has organizational pockets inside!

slippers + socks:  I don’t know about you, but I feel like hospitals are always so cold. Having a pair of socks and slippers are a must need in those cold hospital rooms.

robe nightgown:  I always like to bring a robe to the hospital. It is just easy to nurse in and you can cover up in a second for those last minute guests. Plus, who really wants to get dressed? Haha.

cardigan:  Just another easy layer to cover up + warm up in and is also easy to undress for nursing.

compression underwear or leggings:  I put these on as soon as I can walk! These compression underwear have always helped my hips go back down. I also like the higher wasted leggings cause these help with the compression around the stomach too! Defiantly a must have!!

belly bandit:  I tried this for the first time after Houston + absolutely swear by it!! Honestly this thing got me back to my pre-pregnancy size faster and totally made my hips go back down!! Plus the added support for my back was great!

lily padz:  I found these amazing Lily Padz with my second child and I will NEVER go back to normal nursing pads!! These are amazing and will stick to your skin + you don’t have to wear a bra at night!! Which to me is the best thing ever.

coming home outfit:  I personally don’t love putting on jeans to come home from the hospital. I don’t feel ready and I’d rather have something loose and flowy while my belly is still going down. So I usually opt for a simple dress. I love this one and wore one like this home with Harper.

FOR BABY

swaddle blankets:  I love to swaddle my babies the first chance I get! The babies love it and it always helps them sleep better. These blankets are amazing because they are lightweight, big, and my babies stay swaddled in them!

two onesie outfits:  They say that babies just need one extra layer. I like to bring a couple of onesie outfits along with me to the hospital. A favorite of mine is always the classic white onesies from gap.

hats + headband:  I love to put the little hats on my babes. Because I think they lose most of their body heat through their little heads. Not only are they so cute, but they help keep them warm too.

moccs + socks:  These are a must have… so those little piggies don’t get cold. Plus the tiny ones you can pass on to all your babies.

binkis:  The Nuk brand have always been the kind of binki’s / pacifiers that stay best in my babies mouths. I absolutely love this brand and have used them with every single one of my children. Crazy to think for ten years we have had these binki’s in our home.

  1. Thanks for this post. I just found your blog today and am so excited because my little one is due in less than a week. Not sure how many of these items I’ll be able to rally in time, but it gives me some good insight. Congratulations on your beautiful Harper Dawn.

    1. Meghan!!

Congrats!! So exciting for you guys. Oh just order away…I wasn’t on top of packing my bag with my last little guy so I just ordered everything and by time I got home from the hospital a day or two later it all was there. I promise you’ll love the belly bandit!! It is amazing. Wishing you all the best!!

      xx

  2. Thanks for the great post! Just curious, how do you size the Zella leggings and Spanx postpartum? I love both pre-pregnancy and am looking forward to trying them in a different way! Also, you are spot on about the Belly Bandit. Must have for sure! Congrats on your little beauty!

    1. Beth!!

So I just got my normal pregnancy size…because I like them tight. haha. No I feel like that is the whole point – to suck you all in and hold everything tightly. And so glad you love the belly bandit idea. Seriously it was my go to and I LOVED it!!

      xx

  3. Congratulations Kailee – she is absolutely beautiful! I’m not sure if I’m missing it, but can you share links to the hat with the bow that Harper is wearing and the striped nightshirt you are wearing? I’m due in May and absolutely love both of those! Thank you! 🙂

    1. Megan,

So the little hat with the bow – the hospital gave us, and my nightshirt is linked (or might be sold out) but we tried to link a similar option. I got it at target. Congrats + good luck with baby!! So excited for you!

  4. Hi Kailee! FTM due in June so I ordered everything on your list but I was wondering what your wear during the actual labor? I’m not wanting to wear the hospital gown and was wondering if you had something that you have worn for your labor experiences! thank you! Love your blog and insta!

    1. Ahhhhh congrats Danny!! So excited for your!! So I just wore the hospital gown because it’s the easiest for the doctor + nurses to get to you. 🙂 My husbands a doc….so I kinda got to go with it. haha. No there are cuter “Hospital gowns” online that meet the hospital standards or on etsy. So you can totally look there. I didn’t really care since this was my last one, but maybe had it been my first or second I would have spent the money and used it for my other births. Hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything else. Good Luck!!
