Our Travel Guide: Dallas

As most of you know, Joe is an anesthesiologist. Which means we went through a lot of years of school, medical school, and residency. While I can honestly say those are some of the hardest years we have faced, they were also some of the best. We grew so much as a couple, and met some of our dearest friends that we now refer to as our residency family! While all of us live in different areas now, we try our best to get together regularly. Usually we do one year as families and then the next year as couples. It is so fun to keep in touch and just be together! This year we had a smaller group, but it was still so fun! Our adventure took us to Dallas for the first time and it did not disappoint! So I thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite things we did and of course ate, plus some other recommendations we didn’t get to!

Dallas

: WHERE WE STAYED

We stayed at The Adolphus. It was really nice and a perfect central downtown location, making all the tourist options super accessible.

: THINGS TO DO

Dallas is one of the prettiest city’s I have seen! I was just blown away around every turn that a city could be so clean and nice! One our friends from the group lives in Dallas, so they were full of all the insider tips! Here are a few of our favorites!

: CRUIZER TOUR:
Ok these were equal parts hilarious and so much fun. Picture a golf cart with giant horns on the front in true Texas style. It is a great affordable way to check out all the must see sites and learn about the city.

: IN-CITY WHEELS SCOOTER TOUR:
This was by far my FAVORITE part of the trip. It is the funnest guided tour and takes you to some awesome photo ops. They are 3 wheel scooters so not at all hard to drive and so fun. We were practically peeing our pants we were laughing so hard at ourselves. It was just so fun to see the city and just enjoy it. If you are going as a family, keep in mind passengers have to be at least 12 or 48 inches.

: REUNION TOWER OBSERVATION:
This is a must see for an incredible 360 degree view of the city! This is a great family friendly spot or could be fun to go up as a couple at night! We loved getting a full view of the beautiful city from above.

: TEXAS RANGERS GAME:
Of course when baseball is in your blood you have to hit up a game and the rangers did not disappoint. Their new stadium is incredible!! They have seating that is lower level so you are at eye level with the players feet and it was just so cool! I highly recommend getting in a game if you are in the area.

: THINGS TO EAT

If you are like me, a good trip equals basically eating your way through the city. And in Dallas we did just that. So much of the food we ate was absolutely incredible!! Here are some favorites!

  • TERRY’S BLACK BBQ:
Oh my gosh, this was hands down the best bbq of my life. Joe went back twice with the guys because we loved it that much! From brisket and ribs to mac and cheese and potato salad, they nailed true Texas bbq.  Let’s just say the basically had to roll us out we loved it so much.
  • NICK & SAM’S:
This was our “fancy” dinner and definitely pricey. You have to have a reservation months in advance to get in, but it was worth every penny. Think super high end steakhouse, with incredible meats, seafood, and desserts. If you don’t like meat, pass on this place. But I would say if you are on a couples trip it is worth the splurge, but plan in advance!
  • RESTORATION HARDWARE ROOFTOP RESTAURANT:
Lunch at the RH Rooftop restaurant was amazing! The views were so pretty and it is such a great spot! Loved the fresh food options.
  • TORCHY’S TACOS:
You can’t go to Dallas, or Texas for that matter and not hit up Torchy’s. I am total taco snob (they are one of my favorite foods) and I would say it lived up to the hype! Did I love them as much as the Texas bbq, no surprisingly, but they were delicious!! Hitting up Torchy’s is kind of a right of passage in Texas and I would say a must try!
