Joe and I just got back from a little weekend getaway in Scottsdale with our Residency Family! We call them family because after going through the ups and downs of Medical Residency together, they honestly became as close as family to us. It was the perfect little getaway, and exactly what we needed to reconnect and have some time just relaxing and having fun!! I shared quite a little bit about our trip over on Instagram, and have had SO many questions on everything from swim suits to food, and all the details on where we stayed. Since I didn’t want to overwhelm you, I’ve broken it down into two posts! Next week I’ll be sharing our top things to do, see, and eat in Scottsdale, so today I’m covering inside my suitcase! All my favorite swim suits, cover ups, sandals and new spring favorites!

One thing that was HUGE for us this time around, was the fact that Joe and I shared ONE single carry on sized suitcase. Yes you read that right! I know it was only a weekend getaway, but keeping things minimal was so so nice. I learned on our trip to Hawaii that focusing on multi-functional pieces is a GAME CHANGER. I’ve shared my best packing tips and tricks here for you to check out, but I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty impressed with myself! So with that in mind, here is what I packed in my suitcase this go around!

:: SWIMSUITS

One of the reasons I was most excited to go to Scottsdale was to see the sunshine! Northern Utah is still feeling pretty moody about staying warm! Haha! So of course one of top things to throw in my suitcase was a good swimsuit! A girl can never have too many right? Haha! As much as I hate shopping for them, I love finding great timeless pieces, and the one I grabbed for this trip definitely fits that! I’m obsessed! I had heard so many great things about the quality and uniqueness of the suits from Albion Fit, so I gave it a shot and instantly fell in love!! The fit was perfect and holds you in in all the right places! I loved the uniqueness of the cut and the more neutral simple colors. I highly recommend their suits!

:: MIX + MATCH BASICS

As far as the clothes that I packed, I really tried to focus on good mix and match basics. Things that could easily be dressed up for going out to dinner, but still totally casual for around the hotel or doing some shopping. Versatile is key for me when packing my suitcase.

For bottoms, I went with basic jeans (can’t go wrong with a classic) and then a pair of white jeans to add a little pop. Tops I did a basic black tee and a graphic tee. I went with black because it is a classic pair with jeans, but throw on some jewelry, nicer sandals, and the white jeans and you have a dressed up look for a night out.

We did a little shopping and I snagged a couple of fun pieces like these stripe pants and cute basic top in yellow. I love getting to shop summer clothes a little early in a warm location so I am stocked up for whenever Utah decides to be ready for summer!

Last but not least, were two jumpsuits. This one that I wore there is also from Albion and SO DANG COMFY. I felt like I was wearing pajamas.Jumpsuits are a travel favorite because they can so easily transition from day to night and really work with any plans you have! I love the classic look of this black one, but am always up for a fun pop too like you see here. Like I said, I kept it super simple, but loved that I still had options!

:: VERSATILE SHOES

Since we were only gone for a quick 48 hours, I only took two pair of shoes. I asked for your vote over on Instagram and honestly loved hearing your opinions and how invested you were in my choice! Haha! You can never go wrong with these flip flops. They are of course perfect for a day at the pool, but I love that they look high end enough to go with your night look too. My other choice was these leopard flats. I don’t know about you, but I’ve pretty much adopted leopard as a neutral! I went with them because again, they are so great with jeans, swim, jumpsuit, anything!

:: TOILETRIES

First up is of course my travel sized Tula line up. I love that I don’t have to switch up my normal routine when traveling, because they have all my favorites it a convenient travel size kit. The kits are so good, that I actually gifted them to my girlfriends that were on the trip with us! It comes with my favorite cleanser, moisturizers, exfoliating wipes, and eye cream. They are still so much product for their smaller size and totally worth the price with my 20% off code! (code : kailee )

In addition to those, the only other must haves this time were my Vitamin C Serum and Tinted sunscreen from Form. If you are looking for a good face sunscreen, this is it!! I love that it protects my face AND I don’t have to put heavy makeup on just to lay by the pool. It is just enough to even out your skin tone. So so lightweight and not greasy at all! (use code kailee10 for 10% off!) Besides those, I threw on some of this amazing lip mask and that is it!

For hair, the only thing that is really a must have for me is dry shampoo! Haha! This is because I rarely wash my hair while we are traveling. Then you have to drag along all the tools and products you need for that too. I can maintain clean looking hair with my hat and dry shampoo power couple! Having my new short hair this time around was kind of a bonus as well. I didn’t have all that long hair to deal with, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of loving it!

And last but definitely not least when it comes to beauty is my tanning stuff! I’ve shared here before that I love this tanning machine. But it is such a pain to bring along traveling, especially when you are just doing a carry on. So you can imagine how THRILLED I was when I found the same brands travel solution set. It was exactly what I needed to keep up with my tan through the trip. Highly highly recommend!

Is it just me, or does your go to purse/diaper bag feel like more of a survival kit? It is filled with the things that will get you through the day. Whether it is the charger that keeps you connected all day, the lipstick that helps you fake it till you make it, or the wipes that save you from alllll the messes, what you include can make or break your day! I honestly feel like what a persons must have bag items are kind of gives you a peek into their personality and lifestyle. So I thought it would be fun to show you my must have bag fillers for a typical day!

Kailee Wright Pampers inside my purse

charger  |  lip mask + lipstick  | g2g bar  |  yogurt pouches  |  diapers  |  wipes  |  water color books  |  hair ties  |  gum + mints  |  clear organizing bags  |  water bottle

:: PORTABLE CHARGER

You’ve probably seen my share about this at least 100 times. But you guys, it is because it is that good!! I don’t know about you, but being out and about and seeing my battery get in the red zone stresses me out so much! My phone is kind of like my life line when it comes to schedules, to do lists, and keeping in touch with Joe and my people. This little gadget gives you complete peace of mind. It can charge your phone up to 7 times before it needs a recharge itself. I ALWAYS have one in my bag and a spare in the car too. It is the best gift for just about any person you know, and I promise they will thank you constantly after receiving it! I never leave home without it!

:: LIPSTICK

Being a busy mom of 5, getting makeup on for the day takes a back seat pretty often. I’ve got a lot on my plate and sometimes that doesn’t make it up there before I have to be on the go. That is why I always carry some of my favorite lipstick in my bag. Let’s call it a mom hack. You can throw on some quick lipstick and sunnies and you look like you’ve got things together. Nobody in that school drop off or grocery pick up line is the wiser. You’re welcome! And if you haven’t tried this lip sleeping mask, treat yo self right now!! It is life changing. I use it day and night and can’t get enough. Your lips feel amazing!

:: SNACKS

We never leave home without being prepared with snacks. Nobody likes a hangry baby, and a hangry mom isn’t much better! My go to for the babies are these pouches. Even my big kids love them and I love that they are at least somewhat healthy and help fill them up for longer. For me, you all know my go to is going to be the G2G bar. It is the yummiest candy bar tasting protein bar you will ever taste. They are the perfect thing to hold me over between meals and something you will always find in my bag! And bonus, you can use code kailee for 20% off. Order the PB Chocolate…you’ll thank me later!

:: DIAPERS

With Harper still in diapers, you know this is definitely always on my list! I always make sure to have at least a few of our favorite Pampers Pure diapers in the bag so we are prepared on the go! We have loved using their diapers because they are clinically proven hypoallergenic and gentle for baby’s delicate skin, and we never have to worry about leaks which is a life saver when you are out and about a lot! Plus the patterns are always so cute- especially the new ones they just released!

:: WIPES

Of course along with diapers, we always include some Pampers Pure Aqua Wipes as well. While they are of course great for diaper changes, we love and use them for so much more than that! Since they are 99% water, I honestly use them for all the things. Wiping the babies’ faces and hands down, cleaning off the car seat, wiping down the grocery carts when we are shopping or high chairs at a restaurant, wiping down the car if it’s looking a little trashed, they are seriously the best for EVERYTHING! I always have a pack in my bag and a pack in the car…and basically every room of our house.

:: WATER COLOR BOOKS

Having babies in tow, I have to think of their entertainment when it comes to packing my bag too. I don’t like to add a million different toys that take up tons of space in my bag. My favorite go to are these water color books. They are completely mess free, take up hardly any space, and the babies love them!! They are great to hand back to them when we are in the car, or watching the big kids sports.

:: HAIR TIES

With 3 girls + myself, hair ties definitely make the cut when it comes to my bag necessities. Sometimes I will have my hair down and by the time I’ve ran all the circles of errands, I need it up and out of my way. They are great to have when I pick the girls up from school or a friends and take them to a game or practice so they can quickly pull their hair up out of the way. I swear they disappear on us all the time, so we always make sure my bag is fully stocked with them! We love these ones because they don’t leave a crease in your hair either!

:: GUM + MINTS

This one is probably a given and a must have in most peoples bags. I always make sure I have my bag stocked with gum and mints so I never have to worry about me (or my people) having bad breath!

:: CLEAR ORGANIZING BAGS

If you know me at all, you know that I have to have things clean and organized to function, and my bag is no exception. These clear zipper bags are a life saver when it comes to keeping things organized. I love that they are clear so I can easily find what I’m looking for. They are great to separate lipsticks, hair ties, chargers, gum + mints, all the things!

:: WATER BOTTLE

Last but not least is a water bottle. I’ve been really trying to up my water intake lately. Being constantly on the go, that means bringing it along with me. I love that these water bottles keep my water nice and cold while I’m out and have the convenient straw lid! But I also stumbled upon these new bottles and am obsessed! They have little markers on the side that help you track your water intake for the day. It seems like such a small thing, but I have been doing so much better getting it all in daily!

. . .

So now that I’ve shared my favorites, I wanna know! What are your go to must haves for your stocking your bag?

Answering All Your Orthodontist Questions

Somehow the years have flown by and we already have TWO kids in the braces stage! I feel like I was just going through all of that myself and yet here we are! A lot of you seem to be in the same boat too! As much as it can be a hard + stressful stage, we have loved working with Dr. Elison and his team! They are always so friendly and willing to answer alllll the questions we ever have. When we shared about our appointments over on Instagram you had so many questions too, so we reached out to Dr. Elison and he took the time to answer them all for you!! From why we chose him + his team to the ins and outs of braces, we’ve covered it all below!

:: WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE DR. ELISON AND HIS TEAM? (this first one was for me of course, not Dr. Elison)

Joe and I are a little crazy when it comes to things like this. We do a TON of research before committing. When we knew we were about ready to get the kids started on braces, I asked for all of your suggestions over on Instagram. We got probably 20 different ones. Once we narrowed it down to the ones closest to our area, we started asking around for friends opinions. We even went in, and had consultations with more than one office.

I can’t even begin to tell you how impressed we were with Dr. Elison and his whole office. He took the time to explain everything in a way we could all understand, and answered so many of our questions. And don’t get me started on his other employees. First of all they are so kind and welcoming. Sometimes when you come in to an office like that with a herd of 5 kids (2 of them toddlers) you can feel that you are a disturbance or a bother. We NEVER felt that with them. They always go out of their way to help me out with anything. In addition to that, they do such a great job of making sure your kids who are going through these crazy changes and pain of braces fully understand what is going on and feel like they understand and can ask questions.

I suggest really looking into the office and all of the employees, not just the orthodontist, when making your choice. This isn’t a one time thing, you are going to in there every 6 weeks, so you want it to be a place you really feel comfortable with how you are treated as well as their skills and professionalism. You will hands down get that from Dr. Elison!!

:: WHAT AGE SHOULD YOU START BRINGING YOUR KIDS IN TO CONSIDER BRACES? WHY HAS THE RECOMMENDATION CHANGED TO DOING BRACES IN 2 PHASES? IS IT BETTER TO START OUT YOUNGER?

When most people think of orthodontics, they think of teenagers. And the fact is, most orthodontic treatment begins between the ages of 9 and 14, however, by age 7, most children have a mix of adult and baby teeth. Orthodontists can spot subtle problems with the jaw growth and emerging teeth while some baby teeth are still present. That’s important because some orthodontic problems are easier to correct if they are found early. For these reasons, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child get an orthodontic check- up no later than age 7. While your child’s teeth may appear to be straight, there could be a problem that only an orthodontist can detect.

Even if a problem is detected, your orthodontist may not recommend immediate treatment. Chances are, I will take a “wait-and–see” approach, checking on your child from time to time as the permanent teeth come in and the jaws and face continue to grow. For each patient who needs treatment, there is an ideal time for treatment to begin in order to achieve the best results.

Sometimes a problem might be found that can benefit from early treatment. Early treatment may prevent more serious problem from developing, and it may make treatment at a later age shorter and less complicated. Typically, early treatment involves guiding the growth of young bones and creating a better environment for the adult teeth as they emerge. In some cases, we are able to achieve results that wouldn’t be possible once the face and jaws have finished growing. Early treatment gives us the chance to guide jaw growth, lower the risk of trauma to protruded teeth, correct harmful oral habits, improve appearance and self-esteem, guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position, and improve the way the lips meet.

:: What happens when you start braces early and then wisdom teeth arrive?

A common belief is that wisdom teeth cause crowding of the front teeth, but many studies have shown this is not the case. However, most people do need to have their wisdom teeth removed because there simply is not room for them to erupt. After each case is completed we do x-rays and evaluate the state of the wisdom teeth and make a plan with the patient as to what should be done. If necessary, we will then refer them to an oral surgeon.

:: Would you recommend braces or Invisalign as an adult? I had braces when I
was younger but my teeth have shifted.

Invisalign is great for cases that aren’t really complicated. For someone who has issues with their bite or crowding braces would more than likely be a better choice. Sounds like in this case, where the patient already went through braces and then has experienced some shifting, Invisalign would be just as good of an option as
normal braces.

:: BEFORE’S ::

kailee wright Ellison Orthodontics

:: Do you recommend getting a permanent retainer or not? Are there positives
and negatives to having one.

After orthodontic treatment is completed retainers are necessary to keep the teeth from shifting. I prefer to use retainers that are bonded to the back of the teeth. The great benefit of this is that they cannot be taken out and lost or forgotten about. Cleaning the teeth is a little harder but by using a floss threader cleaning between the teeth is not difficult. However, in certain cases, if hygiene is an issue, I will do a removable retainer instead.

:: How much does a round of braces typically cost?

The cost of braces depends on what the treatment is. Orthodontics costs about $2,000-$5,000. We do initial exams at no cost to the patient so it is easy to come in to our office and find out exactly what your individual case would entail.

:: Are bottom braces really necessary? Or is it just extra as more of a cosmetic
thing?

Yes, bottom braces are usually a necessary part of orthodontic treatment. As the teeth are moved, it is important that we are able to use both the top and lower arches to align the bite.

:: Why are braces better than invisalign for kids?

There are always exceptions, but for the most part braces are better for children because we are correcting not only crowding but in most case we are also correcting their bite. Invisalign is great for cases with minimal crowding, but doesn’t allow us to correct problems with the bite. And honestly, Invisalign requires a lot of compliance, which isn’t always easy for kids.

:: Do you offer any kind of family (multi-kid) discount?

Yes!! Each additional child in a family that is brought in to our office for treatment receives a discount.

:: My daughter just got braces a few months ago, and we are now moving out of
state. Can we continue with our current set with a new orthodontist, or are we
going to have to start completely over?

Great question. We have patients transfer in from other areas and we also have patients that move. A lot of orthodontists will accept patients who are already in treatment. I do, because I know that I would want my patients who move out of state to be able to continue their treatment. As far as continuing on with the braces that are already in place, for me, that depends on the individual case. If everything seems to be going well and I like the braces that they have on then I just pick up and continue on with their treatment. However, sometimes I will see patients that I don’t like what is happening with their previous treatment .

. . .

Hopefully this helps answer your orthodontist questions! I know from experience making all the decisions regarding braces can be overwhelming, and we have been so grateful to Dr. Elison and his sweet team for not only being so knowledgeable, but always taking the time to explain things not only to me but to my kids so they understand the whole process and feel included in the changes. If you have any other questions, please leave them here and we will add it to the post!

A couple months ago over on Instagram, I asked you guys to send over alllll your questions for Joe and I to answer in  little Q + A. We were absolutely shocked when a good chunk of the questions were all about our time in medical school and residency! From handling the time being apart, to where we applied, you guys wanted to know all the things. So today we are featuring a little “part 2” q + a with Joe, answering all your medical school and residency questions!

:: Where did you go to Medical School and Residency?

I went to Medical School at University of Louisville in Kentucky. My residency and fellowship were at Loma Linda University in California.

:: Did you go through Medical School with together?

Yes were went through the whole process together from Day 1 because we were married!

:: What made you want to become a doctor?

I am not going to go into this much. What I will say is that I love learning/reading and this is especially true when it comes to how the human body works. The human body is an amazing gift to us. For those who are considering the field,  I would say do not go into it for the money. The road is long and difficult and if you don’t enjoy learning you will regret it. There are plenty of other ways to make money. You have to define what success looks like to you. Being a Dr may (and sometimes may not) bring you a good income. But the random on call nights and long hours that you put in are just a few (among many) of the costs that come with it.

It is definitely not a job that is Monday thru Friday with all weekends and holidays off and where you never have to worry about a your job when you are at home. To me it is almost a 24/7 job because it is kind of always on your mind. Success most definitely isn’t just how much money you make. So honestly define it for yourself and see what career puts you closest to that definition, which is different for everybody.

:: Was Anesthesiology your dream job? Why did you choose your specific field?

I wouldn’t say it was my dream job. Before Medical School, I shadowed an anesthesiologist and thought it was a cool job. I honestly enjoyed every rotation as a student except for OBGYN. But it was one of my first clinical rotations in my clinical years so probably a little unfair opinion there. Anyways, I did find that anesthesia and the things you need to know and be able to do as an anesthesiologist interested me a lot and kind of drew me to the specialty.

When it came down to decision time, I was between anesthesiologist and a family medicine doctor. I chose anesthesia because I enjoyed more critical care of patients in the operating room where things can change quickly and dramatically. What I didn’t know when I chose this specialty, was how much I would enjoy the patient interaction. A lot of people are scared and nervous about the operation and rightfully so. So it is so fun for me to help them through that time and to have a good experience that day. As good as can be expected anyways.

:: How did you apply to school/choose which schools? What was the application process like?

At the time the application was one central application that you filled out online. You literally clicked a box next to the schools you wanted to apply to. If after that they wanted more information some of them would have a secondary application. I applied to a lot of schools to increase the likely hood of being accepted somewhere that year. My brother who is a radiologist in Idaho told me to apply to some top rank schools, some lower ranked schools, and a lot of the middle ranged schools. We decided on what areas we would be willing to go to and went from there. I did this in close cooperation with Kailee since it was a high possibility that I would be asking her to move across the country.

:: How did you go about finding doctors to shadow to be able to apply to medical school?

This was easy for me, we had a family friend that was an Anesthesiologist. My mom is a nurse so I am sure she could have helped me find someone as well if needed.

kailee-wright-family-pictures

:: How did you survive having a family and going to medical school/residency?

It was very difficult at times. There were week stretches where I wouldn’t see the kids because I left before they woke up and got back after they were in bed. When I get asked this by people I will usually just say I have an awesome wife. Kailee is the only reason we have survived, and I mean that. She has been a huge support and has put up with so much through the years.

:: What is your advice on dating through medical school?

I didn’t date I was married. Always make the effort to just go do something simple with your spouse. Go grocery shopping together, go get a treat at dairy queen. A date doesn’t have to be a huge thing. We both grew up in homes that taught us the value of the family. Having kids was something that we both wanted to do and we knew that from the start even before we were married so we have worked hard to create a good environment for the kids and that similar goal has got us through a lot. Your spouse always come first.

:: For Kailee, was it hard for you to keep everything running smoothly when Joe was in Medical School?

Honestly, it wasn’t that bad. At the time we only had 2 of the little people, and not a lot of things to go and do, so it was just taking care of them during the day. We didn’t have a lot on our plate besides grocery shopping and a few years down the road preschool. Nothing too extreme.

:: How did you survive never seeing him?

Medical school was new to get used to, but not terrible. You still got to see them on the weekends, so like with a lot of jobs I just told myself I had to survive until Friday, and then we would get to see him and have his help. I tried to do all the things during the week, so when the weekend came around we could truly enjoy those 48 hours and not waste them on chores or shopping. Residency is a whole different ball park. The 2nd and 3rd year are pure hell, there is no sugar coating it. You basically do not see them ever, and we had more of the little people so they missed him too.

The best advice I probably ever got in regards to this whole experience was from my sister in law. She told me to plan on him never being there. By that I mean anything from dinner time to a trip to the park, plan on doing it without them. Basically don’t get your hopes up. I think it gave me a more positive experience when we would go and do things because in my head I knew I was on my own. If we got lucky and he got off early and was able to come, we were all extra happy. But I would much rather have the bonus happiness than the disappointment or let down from getting my hopes up. If we knew he had a day off, we would not do anything else but enjoy the time with him. Everything else in life went on hold.

Another thing I can stress enough is to let people in. The other residency wives are the closest people on the planet to knowing exactly what you are going through. They get the long days, and weeks without really having a full conversation with your spouse. A lot of the time there family dynamic is the same as well. You can plan activities to go and do together. We often joked that they were more like sister wives. We would just take our herd of kids along husband free. I can truly say they are some of my very best friends still to this day because we were there for each other through some of the hardest years of our lives.

:: How have you been able to manage medical school debt and your loan repayment?

We planned ahead for what we were getting in to from the get go. We were able to figure out about how much our monthly payments would be on these loans, and then we did our best to see what other expenses would likely be for things like utilities, rent, food, etc. The whole reason was because we really wanted to make sure that we would have enough to save as well as pay off our debt quickly. I had a rough idea of what I would be making, but we planned conservatively in case it was lower than expected. We then overestimated our expenses, so we always had a buffer and were able to cover the needs as well as save.

I think it is important to talk about what you are willing to go in to debt for. For us it pretty much stops at school and home loans, so we take the time to save for any other purchases.

. . .

Hopefully that answers all your medical school + residency questions for us!! If we missed any, please leave them here in the comments or over on Instagram and we will add them to this post!

Is it just me, or have cute long shorts been impossible to find in the past?! I swear they all just screamed old lady or were just not cute on. But have no fear because I finally found the BEST pair I am loving (and bought in both colors). They are the perfect length, and the fabric has just enough stretch to be comfortable but not so much that you have a saggy bum by lunch time. You are going to want to snag some of these for your summer staples.

:: BLACK FOREST GUMMY BEARS

While my love for ice cream runs deep, I’ve never really been a big fan of candy. With that being the case, we usually don’t have too much of it around the house, because I do my best to offer more natural/healthy snack options. But you guys, I had a friend tell me to at least try the Black Forest Gummy Bears and we officially have a new family favorite!!

The flavors are so juicy and delicious, not fake or artificial tasting at all, because they are made with REAL fruit juices. Even the coloring comes from natural plant sources. So while your little people (and you because you won’t be able to say no) are enjoying a new treat, you can feel better about your choice! I love using them as little chore motivators or to keep everyone happy in the car. Annnnd speaking from experience, you are going to want to steal all the strawberry bears out before you share because they are that good! This post is sponsored by Black Forest. Is there anything better than classic timeless jewelry? It is the perfect accessory to just about any look. I love having pieces that I can wear for years and hold a special place in my heart. You guys are always asking what my necklaces are because I honestly wear them daily, so what better time to share the details than Friday Faves! Both of my necklaces that I wear daily (and a few more I rotate) are from Made By Mary. Mary is the sweetest you will ever find, and the special meaning behind her pieces are all so amazing. I love that you can customize to have anything from your babies names, husbands initials, a meaningful date, the sky is the limit, so your piece is truly unique and special to you!

I love them so much that I asked if we could get an exclusive code and for this weekend only you can get 15% off using code WRIGHT15! They make the perfect gift for yourself, mom, sisters, bff, everyone!! So HURRY because it doesn’t last long and these codes are so rare!

:: JEWELRY CASE

In addition to all the gorgeous pieces being on sale with my exclusive code, this incredible jewelry case is as well! It is such a game changer for storing your necklaces without them getting all tangled. I love the clean classic look that it has, just like the jewelry it holds, and that it is so tiny making it perfect for traveling! You can score 15% off of it as well with code WRIGHT15! How cute would it be to get a necklace and the case for a birthday or Mother’s Day Gift?!

Kailee Wright Packing Hawaii

swim suit + flip flops

:: SWIM SUIT

When Joe and I went to Hawaii, I shared this amazing swim suit find with you. It honestly does not get better than this cut on a swim suit. The lines are so flattering and it hits you in all the right places so you aren’t showing too much bum, but doesn’t flatten the bum either. I love it so so much and apparently you guys did too because they only have it left in a large BUT I just checked the site and they have the most darling pattern available now. I’d even go as far as to say it might be cuter than the blue stripe! I am so excited for it to get here!!

:: PRIMER

If there was an item in the Friday Faves I wanted to shout from the rooftops, this is it. I feel like it is life changing! I’ve always been kind of “fine” with skipping the primer step because well more work for me. But I stumbled across this gem and cannot believe the difference it makes!! It instantly shrinks all signs of your pores and little fine lines and gives you the smoothest complexion. It helps your makeup not just go on better and smoother, but actually stay where it belongs for longer. I have been using it for a couple of weeks and LOVING the results!

:: WHITE NAIL POLISH

This warm weather has me feeling all sorts of happy! Just feeling the sunshine on my skin is so so good. With warm weather comes all the fun happy nail colors, and if you know me you know white is one of my go to colors. I love that it gives you a clean bright look, but the best party is I feel like it helps you look tanner too. Win win in my book! You can’t go wrong with such a classic!

:: MEAL PREP CONTAINERS

Last but not least on this slightly random Friday Faves collection are these meal prep containers. If you are just starting out to meal prep, I shared some of my tips over here. Having these containers will simplify things ten fold. They are sturdy enough to reuse, but cheap enough that if you are on the go and just need to trash it, its not the end of the world. I love that they are already sectioned off making it quick and easy to prep things, but not worry about them all mashing together. Such a steal for sanity savers!

:: MOMMY + ME LEGGINGS

Is there such thing as too many pairs of leggings?! I’m going to go ahead and give you permission to say no to that! If you know me you know I never pass up a chance to match my little people, so when I saw these leggings it was game over. Does it get any cuter than those little baby legs in leggings?! I think not. Plus the quality of sweaty betty leggings (and all their products) is so good. Buttery soft and such amazing quality!

. . .

Kailee Wright Sweaty Betty

I think that sums up this weeks Friday Faves! I’d love to hear your feedback on these posts and if you think they are helpful! If you have a product of any kind you are loving and is just your go to fave you share with all your girlfriends, I wanna know!! Leave me a comment here or over on Instagram so I can try it out and feature it here too!

Our Home : A Little Update

Can you guys even believe we are coming up on a year and a half of living in our home?! I swear it has flown right by. But at the same time I feel like we have already made so many amazing memories together in this space! If you’ve been here over that past 17 months, then you know I took you through a bit of a design tour and gave you a look inside how we laid out and designed each of our spaces from the kitchen all the way down to the laundry room and everything in between! Now that we’ve had time to kind of settle and see what works best for our family and our needs, we’ve made a few changes that I wanted to share with you today in a little house update!

Kailee Wright Front Room Ellen Rug

couch + pillows + chairs  |  rug  |  coffee table  |  black round planter + fiddle leaf tile

The biggest changes we have made have been in our family room + office. I shared a little office update a couple of weeks ago. So today the focus will be on the heart of our home, the kitchen and family room.

So I’m sure some of you are probably wondering why we did a complete change up from the original family room, after only living here for a year. And there are kind of a few answers to that. One, I think I was just in such a rush to get out of the rental and get my people in our home together for the holidays (that were a week away), that I didn’t spend a lot of time on the decisions. I just needed places to sleep and beds to sleep in. So I rushed things. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the space we designed and the pieces we had. But after testing it out for a year, there were just changes that needed to be made for functionality for our family.

So with that in mind, I called up my cute cousin that has worked as an interior designer for Gatehouse for over 20 years, and said I needed her input on the new design I had in mind. Joe has ALWAYS wanted a sectional up here. But in my head I just didn’t want a big bulky “man cave” looking piece in our main space. I’m all about clean and simple. To me that wasn’t going to fit the mold. BUT Gatehouse proved me wrong! We were able to have them custom make this sectional that we are all in love with!! I feel like we can fit so many more of our family and friends in the space, but the room still feels so open!

But as a mom to 5 little people, the thing I love most about this sectional is the fabric we used. I know you are all looking at this thinking “a white couch?! are you insane?!” And the answer is no, because of the magic of crypton. I’m not going to lie, when they told me it could handle any spills and be completely wipe-able, I kind of laughed, like wait until you see what 5 kids can do to it. But I am here to say it is true! We have already had blood, pizza sauce, pretty much all the terrible things spilled on it and it has wiped right off WITH A BABY WIPE! Like no scrubbing and still seeing the faint stain. It is GONE. I could not be happier about how it turned out!

Kailee Wright Front Room Ellen Rug

rug  |  coffee table  |  couch + pillows  |  planter

Since we updated the furniture we needed to switch up the rug as well. I honestly had always wanted the rug to cover up more of the tile. But I could never find one giant enough in stock. With the light colored furniture and super bright windows, I wanted something that brought a little more depth and texture to kind of ground the space. So I finally decided I need to put on my patient pants and order the one I wanted and wait it out. And it was worth the wait!! I found it through Ed By Ellen, and was actually so surprised at how many amazing rug options they have that I hadn’t seen anywhere else. They were amazing to work with through shipping delays and all the things. I think it totally ties the room together perfectly!

Kailee Wright House Update

table  (sold out, very similar linked)  |  chairs  |  gray stripe pillows

In addition to all the bigger changes to the main family living space, we made some smaller changes as well throughout the house that we have had some questions about. One of the most asked about is our kitchen table. (Sold out, very similar linked) We changed it out shortly after moving here just because we needed a change. We had done the bench seating with our old table for years. With the people getting bigger we just wanted a change. I LOVE the clean modern look of the table, and that the black accent of the chairs ties it in with our hardware and windows in the space. Not a huge difference but it has been such a great change!

Kailee Wright House Update

And last on the little house update is this stool. Ha! Nothing shocking and crazy. But every single time I show even the slightest glimpse of it, I get a million questions! You see it kind of all over the house because the babies are obsessed with it. They seriously use it to climb up and get all the things. So it is definitely well loved, but the quality is amazing and it still looks like new. I love that it still flows with the clean modern design of our home, but is totally functional as well!

Time is flying on by and somehow we are already just about into May! While I can’t believe it’s already here, I am welcoming it and it’s beautiful Spring weather with open arms!! Since we are heading into May this week, that means Mother’s Day is just around the corner so it is time to start thinking of some good ideas for all your favorite women out there! I often hear that moms or women in general are hard to shop for. Crazy talk right?! I think the problem is sometimes we get stuck in a rut of doing the same gifts on repeat and aren’t thinking out of the box. So today I’ve rounded up a TON of gift ideas from all different genres whether you want to go fitness, beauty, sentimental, or even cash free! We’ve got you covered!!

:: BEST OF BEAUTY

First up let’s talk beauty! Beauty products are almost always a safe go to when it comes to gifting to girlfriends! Since we all tend to use the products daily, it is kind of fail proof! But today I wanted to share some of my absolute favorite beauty go to picks that would make amazing Mother’s Day Gifts!

First up, you know my love for all things Tula. When it comes to gifting my favorite is their Cleanser + Moisturizer Duo. You cannot go wrong with this pair, PLUS you can use code KAILEE to get 20% off!

Another skin care favorite I’ve been obsessed with and have gifted to a few girlfriends is the Tinted SUNSCREEN Moisturizer from Form. It is just enough coverage to balance out your skin tone and gives you the protection you need during these upcoming sunny days without the gross sticky feel. It is amazing! Use code kailee10 to get an extra 10% off!

If you want to go a little bigger for your Mother’s Day gift, you could think more along the lines of beauty tools. Two of my go to products I have used for years are the PMD and this Roller. I actually wondered if both would live up to hype, but I am here to tell you they totally do. I have seen such a change in my skin since using them.

And last but not least in beauty ideas is to keep it simple with lips! If you live on planet Earth, you’ve probably heard about this lip mask. Again I thought it was all just a fad and so over hyped. Until I tried it and my lips were changed forever. It is the silkiest smoothest miracle product and makes you feel like you woke up with a brand new set! It would be so cute to pair with a favorite lipstick or gloss!

Kailee Wright Fitness Tips for Working Out

my tank (and similar)  |  leggings + similar  | favorite hair ties  ||  yoga mat + weights

:: FITNESS FAVORITES

You have probably noticed, but over the past year fitness and taking better care of myself both physically and mentally has become a major goal of mine and so much more important to me. As much as I love seeing the physical changes, the mental ones have been such a game changer. I feel so much happier, patient, positive, and productive!! So I had to share some of the things that have made that a reality, that would make great Mother’s Day gifts!

First up and probably the best gift on the list would be a Clean Simple Eats meal plan. Every single one of them is packed full of meals that are so dang good, and that is saying something because I am a pretty picky girl. I love that they truly are simple like the name says, and meals my whole family loves! As women we are usually the ones doing a lot of cooking, so why not make that easier on your mom or girlfriends with this?! Code KAILEE gets you $15 off too!

Another fun fitness idea would be to pair a cute water bottle with some YUMMY G2G bars. Think of it as the healthy route to giving someone their favorite soda and candy bar. They will be obsessed with the bars, and who doesn’t love a cute new water bottle?! Plus you can get 20% off the bars with code Kailee.

:: THOUGHTFUL THINGS

Mother’s Day is a great holiday to switch gears a little bit and go for a more thoughtful approach. These are my (and I think a lot of women out there) favorite type of gifts to give and receive. Just knowing that its something that you or they can hold on to for years to come and has a special memory is my favorite.

One of my go to’s for sentimental/thoughtful gifts is Made By Mary. Every single thing she creates is incredible and has so much meaning behind it. You can do pieces with kids names or birthstones, anniversary dates, or even just the simple phrase “mama”. I have a necklace with my late grandmas name on it and it is something I cherish. She recently added rings to her collection too and I have my eye on those too! They’d make a great Mother’s Day gift. And if you are shopping for yourself….or a later gift…stay tuned because we will have an amazing exclusive code this weekend with Mary!

Another more sentimental gift is a journal. I did something similar for my mom where I got a new journal, but I wrote down 5 of my favorite memories with her in the back. Just adding that personal touch makes it so special. Chatbooks are a great way to do this too and my favorite gift idea for grandmas! They love to see all the fun pictures of your family and they are so simple to make!

:: FREEBIES + OUT OF THE BOX

Just because it is a holiday, doesn’t mean you have to go all out and spend a ton of money either. I love trying to think of gifts to maybe add in to my card that aren’t about the price tag. Here are some fun ideas!

We just celebrated my mom’s 60th birthday and wanted to do something special.  We had the idea to have everyone write her a letter. She absolutely loved it and it is definitely one of those gifts you love and cherish forever.

Another favorite (especially for grandmas) is to make videos of the past year, or of all the kids/grandkids. It is so simple to throw together using iMovie and they always end up being family favorites to go back and watch!

And if you are anything like our family where your heart is closely connected to your stomach, serving them by making a favorite meal, freezer meal, or treat is great too! For my sister’s birthday I prepped a whole bunch of her favorite protein shake so not only did she get the yummy shake, but she got the time that it would’ve taken her to do them. My mom is great at this and will often make the kids a batch of cookies for a birthday, but gift them a big tub of the cookie dough too so they can make it later on too. So simple but fun, and what mom doesn’t want to take meal prep off their to do for a day or two?

:: FASHION FAVORITES

Last but not least is the fashion favorites. These are pretty fail proof and something we don’t always think of when we think Mother’s Day gifts. I think some great ideas would be something fun for spring! Maybe some new spring sandals or dresses? Or you can go accessories too, like a cute new wallet filled with gift cards to her favorite for a date night with you! If you are feeling a little more practical you can go with the Loopy Case! Everyone can appreciate the convenience of a Loopy! They not only protect your phone, but keep those busy mama hands free! Plus you can use code kailee10 for 10% off or kailee15 for 15% off if you are buying multiple!

If that crazy list doesn’t fill your brain ideas, I don’t know what will! Haha! But in all honesty, Mother’s Day is such a special holiday. Mom’s work so hard day in and day out and it is so fun to take a day to celebrate the mom or mom figure in our lives! I hope you all know how much I appreciate your friendships and feel a little extra love this year!

Swim Suit Favorites from Baby to Tween

You guys!! We are loving all this nice warm weather!! I don’t think I’ve ever missed the sunshine so much! My little people never want to come back inside and it is so nice so I honestly don’t blame them! So with the warm weather comes a LOT of swim time for us! Between just heading playing in the sprinklers out back, heading to the local rec center, or my parents pool, we can’t get enough of swimming! So much swimming means we usually need a few swim suit options to rotate through for each of the people. So with that in mind, today I’m sharing our favorite swim suit lines for kids, as well as a couple tips when it comes to deciding what to buy!

Kailee Wright Hanna Andersson Swimsuits

harper’s suit  ||  my suit + hat   ||  houston’s suit

First up, lets talk tips! I like my people to have 3-4 swim suits each. I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand putting on a wet swim suit, so having a few avoids any extra meltdowns! My first tip when it comes to your swim suit options is to think about sizing! I know my girls are going to grow out of a 1 piece a lot faster due to the length, so I will usually just do 1 of those, and keep the others as separates or rash guards with bottoms. For the boys, I actually try to size up a little, so I can get more than one season out of them!

Kailee Wright Hanna Andersson Swimsuits

hayden’s suit  |  giant swan floatie

My next “tip” is Rash Guards! Now I have to say, I wasn’t a fan of the rash guards in the past. I always felt like they were just over kill and trying to cover up too much so I didn’t see the need. Fast forward to putting sunscreen on 5 little people, and I’m like GIMME ALL THE RASH GUARDS!!! They save so much time in putting on all that extra sunscreen, but you can still relax knowing they are protected from the sun!

Now that we’ve talked tips, lets talk my favorite swim suit lines! My usual plan is to get 2 good quality suits (like the ones highlighted below) and then 1-2 lower quality ones that I’m not going to mind if they get hammered after one year.  So with that in mind, here are my two go to favorites!

. . .

Kailee Wright Hanna Andersson Swimsuits

HANNA ANDERSSON :

It should come as no surprise to you that the Hanna Andersson swim suit line is at the very top of my list! I love their entire line from joggers and pajamas, to dresses and swim because the quality is out of this world! The price tag is an investment compared to some things you’ll find, but I can 100% tell you it is worth every penny. We have pieces from them that have made it through Hudson and Houston and are now on to our little nephew Brooks and still in like new condition. You really cannot beat the quality!

In addition to the quality, I LOVE the bright bright colors and simple patterns they use, especially in their swim suits. They are all so classic they could be used years later and be right in style still. Usually they offer around 4 fun bright colors in each style so you can mix and match and coordinate! My favorite! Another perk to their swim line is the sizing. Unlike a lot of kids lines, you can buy their pieces as separates, so the fit is so much better. Hayden has a tiny bum so I can go smaller in the bottoms, but get a bigger top to fit her long torso. LOVE that!! Their sizing goes all the way up to fit Hunter too, which means we can get all 5 in on the matching game!!

MINNOW SWIM :

My other favorite high quality swim line is Minnow Swim. While I love Hanna for the bright fun pops of color, Minnow is all things subtle, clean, and classic. The attention to detail in little ruffles or hem lines is so amazing. And again the quality is top of the line. I think my favorite from their line is the rash guard one pieces, like you’ll see Harper in. I love that it is all one piece together to make it easy to get on, but she is getting extra coverage with the rash guard top. And can you even handle those little boy shorties on Houston. I love the little throwback look of them and that the color options coordinate between boys and girls for more matching.

It is finalllllly feeling like Spring here in Northern Utah and I’m crossing my fingers we are DONE with all the random snow storms! We are beyond ready for sunshine filled days and being able to get outside without allll the layers. Besides it being an instant mood boost, one of my favorite things about Spring is seeing the new trends in Spring Fashion. You finally start to see the fun pops of color and patterns come back in, and my favorite thing to grab first is Spring Shoes! Something about the weather being warm enough to free your feet from socks and shoes and try some fun new pops of pattern gets me so excited.

Now before we get into my favorites, I should probably share my criteria when looking for a good shoe. First and foremost, it has GOT to be COMFORTABLE! I am running around with 5 little people to and from allll the things, and I’ve got to be able to walk and in some cases run after them! So comfort is probably my top priority. A close second to that is that they be something I consider a classic. To me a classic is one that while I make be making a bigger initial investment, that is worth it to me because I know it will still be right on trend and in style 3-4 years down the road. So with those two criteria in mind, here are some of my favorites this season!

:: SANDALS

I love a good pair of sandals, and I feel like this year the variety is unmatched. You’ve got everything from a basic flip flop, to a studded sandal, and just about every color and pattern you can imagine in between! I am loving the leopard trend so so much. There are so many different varieties of sandals that are giving you a touch of the leopard without being too overpowering and it is so dang cute! These flip flops have also been my go to for years and such a good investment. They are perfect to dress up or down on vacation and take up zero space!

Who doesn’t love a good wedge?! I swear a cute pair of wedges is the easiest way to take a spring/summer day time look and make it work for a night out. I am so obsessed with this pair I just got, and think they are the perfect neutral. But I found some fun pops of color too you will love!

:: FLATS/SLIDES

Last but not least are flats or slides. While they don’t necessarily scream spring like a sandal would, they are so perfect for transitioning in. I love wearing them in the spring/summer because they are quick to throw on and go, and a little more formal than flip flops or sandals where your feet are out. The leopard trend is shining here too in such a cute way, plus some cute classic white ones that would go with everything!

Answering All Your Laser Hair Removal Questions with Form Spa

Kailee Wright Form Laser Hair Removal Questions

Turn off your ad blocker to view content

If you’ve followed along here for the past couple of years, you know I’ve put a big focus on upping my skin care game. From staying out of the sun, to getting regular face treatments, I’ve been putting a lot of time into it. I’ve been working with the team at Form Med Spa since I started back in 2017, so I was beyond thrilled when some of our best friends from Joe’s Residency joined on as partners at Form. They convinced me I needed to try some of the other things Form has to offer in addition to the face treatments, and my first stop was Laser Hair Removal.

I’ve wanted to get it done for years!! But honestly I never knew who to trust. I decided to go with Form, because how amazing they have been with the rest of my treatments. And I am so excited to see the results!! When I shared about going to my first appointment, I had  A LOT of you send questions over about everything from pain level, to pricing. I had my sweet friends take the time to answer ALL of them for you so I could put them together here for you to refer back to! So here we go!

. . .

:: How long does it last?

Electrolysis is the only permanent method of hair removal. But you may need touch up sessions every 6 to 12 months.

:: What Laser do you use?

The Gentle Max is the type of laser we use.

:: Is Laser Hair Removal Safe for Sensitive Skin?

YES!

:: Does Laser Hair Removal work on light hair?

The hair has to have pigment (color) because that is what the laser targets. It is usually not very effective on lighter hair, and most successful on darker hair with lighter skin.

:: How many sessions do you have to do?

We usually recommend 10-12, with touch ups in months/years following as needed.

:: How much will it still grow after your 100% complete with your treatments?

Each person is different so we recommend to get touch ups every 6 to 12 months!

:: Is it painful for hours after you have it done?

No! We give you hydrocortisone cream to help calm the skin after your treatment.

:: What’s the youngest age you can do this?

Teenagers hormones are constantly changing which can effect the hair growth, so we usually recommend waiting until over 18. Although those under age 18 require the presence of a parent on the first consultation and written consent each time from a parent, the risks of laser hair removal for them are the same as for an adult.

:: What do I do if I want to get Laser Hair Removal in the summer, but I’m not supposed to go in the sun?

Wear lots of sunscreen and stay out of the sun as much as you can! We can’t perform the treatment if you have been active in the sun 2 weeks prior. We highly recommend getting Laser Hair Removal Treatments done in the winter. Because we can’t perform the treatment with an active tan.

:: Why do you choose to use the snapping version versus the one that glides?

Pulsing targets the pigment more efficient and is more comfortable.

:: Is it safe to get Laser Hair Removal while pregnant?

We don’t recommend treatments while you are pregnant because skin can be hypersensitive,  but you can while breast feeding.

:: Do you have to grow out your hair?

No! If your hair is not shaved prior to treatment, all the energy will go in to burning off the hair. And not into the hair follicle itself. Which is what actually prevents the regrowth.

:: Do you have to refrain from shaving after getting it done?

We recommend waiting to shave until 3 days after your treatments.

:: How long do treatments take?

Depends on the size of the area. A Bikini are or your armpits take about five minutes. A larger area like your legs is closer to 15 minutes.

If you’ve been around here for the past 9 months or so, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve really been focusing on taking better care of myself and my body, so I can in turn not only feel better, but be a better and healthier wife and mom for my people! It has been full of a lot of changes, but I couldn’t be happier with how I have been feeling both physically and even more so mentally. I’ve shared a little bit about what is keeping me motivated to work out over here and here, but today I wanted to talk about the food side of things and my food diary.

I get a lot of questions on if I’m on any kind of diet, or follow a strict meal plan, and the answer is no. I knew I wouldn’t stick to anything to demanding, so I’ve just been trying to listen to my body while making healthier choices. So below I’ve laid out  a full days food diary… what I eat from first thing in the morning, until right before bed. I am in no way saying this is what you should do nor am I saying it will work for you. This is just what I’ve learned over the past few months that works for me and I hope it is helpful for you!

. . .

Before my workout (at about 6 am) :

I drink one full water bottle with my BCAA’S. I use (and LOVE) the BCAA’s from I Heart Macros. If you are new to the fitness game and just trying to figure out where to even begin, Quincey and Brandon are such an incredible resource to get you on the right track not only with eating and workouts, but understanding your body and what you personally need. They have given me so many tips to get me started, and I love their BCAA’s. If you are interested, they are offering my readers a 30% discount with code kailee30.

Post workout (at about 7:15) :

After my workout before I get the kids going for the day, I will have a quick “mini-breakfast”. This usually consists of a protein muffin or protein donut from Fed Up (you can read all about my love for them and how they’ve changed my eating habits here), as well as mix up a Chocolate Almond Joy Shake from the Clean Simple Eats Meal Plan.

I’ve said it at least 100 times, and you’ll probably hear me say it 100 more, but if you don’t already have the Clean Simple Eats plans, you need them in your life. They were made for (and by) busy parents trying to make healthier choices in their eating habits. I have loved every single thing I’ve tried, and that is saying a lot coming from a very picky eater. The recipes are delicious and easily customizable to fit your needs or preferences. You can use code KAILEE for $15 off.

“Second Breakfast” (at about 9:30-10)

Once I get all the big kids off to school and things settle down, I usually take the time to have the rest of my breakfast. I’m all about quick and easy. My go to is usually a cup of egg whites and 1-2 oz. of diced ham. To keep it simple and mess free for me, I just buy the egg whites in the carton from Costco, and the delicious diced ham from Harmons.

Lunch (at about 12-12:30) :

Just like breakfast, I keep things pretty simple for lunch. I try to make sure I have a carb and a protein. Most of the time I will grab one of my pre-made Fed up meals because they are just so delicious and easy to heat and eat. If I don’t do that I will have a cup of rice and some chicken, or some bbq chicken and a sweet potato.

. . If you want to try out FED UP contact Linzie at 435-229-2779 + tell her I sent you and she will take great care of you! . .

Afternoon Snack (at about 3:00) :

I lay the babies down for naps in the afternoon and try to get some work done. If I am sitting and “bored” I am almost always hungry! I usually reach for my favorite treat, a nice cold G2G bar. Oh my gosh you guys, if you haven’t tried them yet you must!! They are seriously one of my very favorite treats. My kids are even hooked on them now too. Our extra fridge in the garage has turned into the G2G fridge, because they are so yummy nice and cold.

You are probably thinking I am crazy because protein bars do not taste like a treat. I promise these ones are different and so so good. The PB Chocolate are my very favorite, but they have a bunch of flavors. You can save 20% off by using code kailee. Other snack options I love are my greens shake from Fed Up, or a quick cup of greek yogurt with strawberries.

Dinner (at 5:00) :

We eat dinner a little earlier than the norm for two reasons. One I think it helps from having the little people eat your entire house in snacks because they are starving. And two because we are busy and it is the time that works best for us to be together. I usually try to stick with a lean meat like chicken or lean ground beef. There are SO SO many good options in the Clean Simple Eats meal plans. My whole family loves them! Another one of our favorites when we are rushed (which is a lot) is simple Chicken Tacos. Grab a Rotisserie Chicken from your local grocery story or Costco. Shred it up on tortillas and add all your favorite toppings. I love that it is a healthier option for my family and customizable to what they like and don’t like.

Evening Snack (at around 7-8) :

Last but not least I have an evening snack. This is the time of day that I’m usually trying to curb my sweet tooth a little more so I reach for a healthier treat. My favorites are halo top ice cream or a caramel rice cake. Just something that helps keep my from going to be starving, and has that little bit of sweet in it.

I think that sums up my food diary for a day. As you can see it isn’t anything life altering or crazy. Just pretty simple. My biggest thing I have learned that works for me is to eat every 2-3 hours. That way I am never totally starving so I over eat, but I am not stuffing myself completely full either. Doing smaller more frequent meals has worked best for me! I hope this helps give you an idea and answer any questions you have! If I left anything out or you have questions, please leave them here or over on Instagram. I’ll be sure to answer them!

Spring is upon us and we couldn’t be happier!! Besides the amazing weather, it usually brings a lot of big events. Whether it is attending a graduation, a wedding, celebrating Easter, or even going to Prom, so many things seem to land in spring! With all these events on your calendar, you might find yourself searching everywhere for dresses to match the occasion. Well you came to the right place because while I was doing my own shopping, I put together a round up of my favorites that would be perfect for any special occasion you have coming up (including my favorite prom looks for those of you with teens), and a couple tips tip to keep in mind when buying any special occasion dresses.

:: THINK CLASSIC AND TIMELESS

My biggest tip when looking for dresses for these special occasions is to think timeless. Fancy dresses usually don’t come with a small price tag. Instead of splurging on a one time outfit, make the investment in a classic, timeless piece that you will be able to wear for years to come. Avoid big prints that could just be trendy and stick to classic colors.

I personally love shopping for our special occasion dresses at Nordstrom. If you’ve been around for awhile that should be no surprise. They have so many high quality items, especially when it comes to occasion wear. Hunter and I took a peek at their Prom Dresses when we went in last and couldn’t believe all the gorgeous options. With all of their pieces, I know that while I may be making the splurge or money commitment now, I know I will have a high quality go to piece in my closet for big events for years to come. And my very favorite thing is their shipping and return policy. I can shop from the comfort of my own home and pick 10 different options to try on and know that returning the ones I don’t choose is quick and easy.

:: DON’T FORGET TO ACCESSORIZE

Accessories can make or break an outfit, ESPECIALLY when it comes to special occasion dresses. While your dress may be more simple and classic, adding the right accessories can take your look to the next level and be just what it needs to give it that extra pop. By going with a more simple dress, then you can splurge on those heels and go for sparkles or a bold statement with a bright color or animal print.

. . .

Now that I’ve shared my tips to keep in mind before you buy, let’s get to the shopping. I’ve broken it down into a couple different occasion categories below to make things easier!

:: GRADUATION OR WEDDING GUEST DRESSES

Spring is jam packed with allll the graduations and weddings to attend. Keep in mind, you are guest for this type of special occasion and not the star. While you want to look nice and dressy enough for the event, you also want to keep it classic and simple so you aren’t over done. And that old wedding rule that you’re not allowed to wear white…so not true. As long as you aren’t trying to top the bride in style, feel free to grab any color you want!

:: PROM DRESSES

While every girl loves to go all out on Prom, I love the idea of keeping it again really classic and going with something you could wear again in the future. I always hated the thought of spending a fortune on a dress and then never being able to wear it again! I can’t even believe Hunter isn’t even too far from being able to go to her own prom and we will be dress shopping for her!

:: ULTRA FANCY FORMAL DRESSES

While you tried to be classic and blend in the last category, these are the dresses where you are really making a statement. Think more along the lines of formal night on a cruise, or awards dinner.
