Raise your hand if your hubby always wins the title of “fun parent”?! I swear the little people would vote Joe hands down as the fun guy around here and I don’t blame them!! He just has such a relaxed, care free personality that the little people can’t get enough of, and I love that about him! With Father’s Day just around the corner, today I wanted to share a little behind the scenes dad style of 3 things I love about Joe as a dad!
Is it just me or do you feel like dad’s tend to get a bad rap when it comes to parenting? In most cases mom’s seem to get most of the credit, especially when it comes to the daily dreads of things like diaper duty. But not Joe. When he is home, he is 100% hands on with the little people and I LOVE that about him. He works long hard hours at the hospital, and honestly if I were him I would probably want to just come home and crash, but he always jumps right in to dad mode. Whether it is throwing pitches to Hudson in the backyard, or dealing with a diaper blow out in the nursery. He is all in and just as much a part of the parenting in our house as I am.
:: HE IS SO DANG FUN
Another thing I love about Joe as a dad and really all around, is that he is so dang fun. Any one that knows Joe knows he is hilarious and always cracking a joke. I love that this translates into his parenting too. For example, when it comes to changing diapers, I make it a quick get it done process. Out with the old, put on a fresh Pampers Pure Diaper, and we are on our way.
But with Joe, it is totally different. Yes he is in and out with the actual diaper changing process, but there is always more fun involved. He over exaggerates the stinky diaper to make them laugh. He tickles them while he has them trapped for diaper duty. Or Houston’s favorite, he turns it into a post diaper change wrestling match to try and beat dad. It is all about fun and taking what could just be a monotonous diaper change, and making it into something the babies love.
:: HE IS SO PATIENT
The third thing I really love and admire about Joe as a dad is his patience. It is something I really strive to be more like him at. He will take the time to really get on the babies level and do things at their pace. Toddlers are VERY independent and I’ll be honest, it totally tests my patience and I just want to do things for them to get it done. But Joe is so laid back. He will take the time to help Harper get a matching Pampers Pure diaper on her baby doll. If Houston wants to build the ultimate race car track, Joe is right there telling him how awesome he is doing. Nothing is ever rushed with dad and the babies feel so important in his eyes.
The same goes for meal time. With 5 little people it can be straight chaos. Making sure all the little people get something to eat, avoiding messes, and having enough time usually makes for a stressful experience for me. Joe can be in charge and take the same hectic hour and turn it all fun! Maybe it is his choice of smoothies and pizza for dinner. Or maybe it is that he always comes up with a fun game of who can eat the fastest or a certain way to just have that interaction with them. He just has a way about him to be patient and make things so fun!
You all know how Joe much Joe loves the spotlight online… but with Father’s Day around the corner, I just wanted to give him a little extra love and attention he deserves for being the best dad our little people could ask for! So I want to know! What is something you admire or love about how the dad in your house parents your babies?
One of my very favorite things about Summer time is all the extra family time we get during the different holidays! I love a good family bbq and just enjoying that time with my people. One of the first holidays in the line up (and only 10 days away) is Father’s Day! It’s no secret we are all obsessed with our guy around here. We love any excuse to celebrate him! But that being said, sometimes the men in our lives aren’t the easiest to shop for. So today I’m sharing some of my go to favorites to get for Joe + some new ideas I have in mind for this year! From tech to clothes to a few totally out of the box unique ideas, you’re sure to find something awesome for the man in your life!
When it comes to shopping for men, you usually can’t go wrong with gifting them the latest in tech! I narrowed down 6 of Joe’s favorites he uses pretty much daily that would make great Father’s Day gifts!
Bluetooth Speaker : We LOVE having this around the house AND on the go! The sound quality is amazing! I love that it is water proof too so we can take it to the pool, beach, or boating and not worry about ruining it!
Portable Charger : I think I’ve shared about this portable speaker 50 times, but that is because it is something EVERYONE needs and loves. It can charge your phone up to 7 times and is the perfect thing to have when your traveling to avoid the dreaded low battery!
Apple Watch : I’ll be honest, when I first got my Apple Watch I thought it was a little overrated. But not that I’ve learned all it can do, I’m in love. It is so nice to track your workouts or sleep, and to keep yourself a little more screen free by getting notifications quickly on your watch instead of getting sucked in to your phone. Such a great gift idea if your guy loves working out and tracking his health goals.
Airpods + Airpod Case : Joe loves these for using his phone and listening to music. No annoying cords everywhere, or holding your phone up to your face. They are great for when you are on the go too. If your guy already has airpods, a new case to carry + protect them is a great Father’s Day gift idea too! Whether you go high end leather or fun colored rubber there are great options!
Phone Wallet : If your guy is anything like Joe, he hates carrying a ton of stuff around, including a wallet. Insert this awesome phone case. It holds a few credit cards and the other necessities while still keeping your phone sleek and slim to fit in your pocket.
I know I know, for the most part dad’s don’t usually celebrate getting new clothes…BUT sometimes practical gifts can be just what they need too and don’t have to be boring! I rounded up 6 that are a little more unique than a pair of pants or underwear that your guy will love!
Hat : Guys like to accessorize too, and a new hat is the perfect fun clothing gift for Father’s Day. Hats are great for the summer sun and just to add a little bit of personality to their outfit. My big kids love to pick out new hats for Joe!
Flip Flops : Another summer staple that makes a perfect Father’s Day gift is a new pair of Flip Flops! I love getting and giving fun summer staples at the beginning of the season. It gets us all excited for summer activities.
T-Shirt : You can never have too many good basic tees. Joe would live in a t-shirt and shorts 365 days of the year if he didn’t have to go in to work, so he always loves a new tee. These ones are great quality and a great price!
Sunglasses: If you want to gift a good summer staple and make a little more of an investment, sunglasses are a great option! This would be a great option for dad’s and grandpas too!
Swim Suit : Nothing screams summer fun with the family more than a new swim suit!
Backpack : This is one I saw a friend recommend and thought it was a great idea! If you want to get extra creative, you could fill the backpack with all of dad’s favorite treats!
While I love leaning on the basics and staples for gift ideas because they are guaranteed wins, thinking of unique ideas is so fun too! These six ideas are things that are a little more out of the box than your average Father’s Day Gift ideas, but they are all so fun for dad!
Bug A Salt : When I first heard of this, I about died laughing. It is the perfect Father’s Day gift idea for the guy who is a kid at heart, which totally screams Joe! I got it for him this past Christmas, and all the guys were fighting over it. Grab it for your guy and your summer fly problem will be a thing of the past!
Car Wash Kit : My little people LOVE washing the car or going to the car wash with Joe. I love grabbing one of these kits to help with the interior, and adding in a car wash pass as well! I think this is another one that would be perfect for the grandpas!
BBQ Sauces : Give Joe a steak and he is a happy man! Haha! But really, we have loved having our Traeger Grill and trying out new fun delicious recipes on it. Whether you have a Traeger or not, grilling and summertime go hand in hand, and these sauces are SO SO good!! You could go big and get him a grill with the sauces, or if he is already set with that, keep it simple and get some sauces, rubs, and a meat thermometer!
TRX Band : As you all know, we are in the process of adding on a home gym and can’t wait! While that is happening, we are still trying to get some at home workouts in. Joe is loving this set of bands a friend recommended. You don’t need any other equipment and you get a crazy good workout!
Watch Band : Up in our tech section we mentioned an Apple Watch. If your guy already has one, a fun simple idea from the littles could be a new watch band! You can find just about every color for under $10 here!
Corn Hole : Joe LOVES this game!! It is so great for family get togethers, friend date nights, or just when we are hanging out in the back yard. I love the idea of gifting a game that encourages more family time!

Summer is FINALLY in full swing here in Utah and we are LOVING it!! We are visiting my parents in Southern Utah this week and the weather could not be better! I can’t get enough of this bright happy sunshine! With the change in season, one question I get asked a lot is how to make changes to your decor without breaking the bank! So today I’ve teamed up with Walmartto share 3 of my Budget Friendly ways to brighten up your home for Summer without sacrificing on quality! They are so simple and affordable, and add such a fun change to your space for this happy season!
:: PLANTS + FLOWERS
If you’ve seen any of my home decor posts, you know how much I love greenery in my home. We have multiple fiddle leaf figs, ferns, and snake grass plants throughout our house just to name a few! Even if you aren’t a green thumb, fake plants just add such a great pop of texture and life to your decor. With Summer finally here, I love to add in bright flowers with the greenery as well. It is such an easy way to color to your space without doing anything permanent. One of my biggest tips to keep things budget friendly is to look for flowers at your local grocery store. You will be shocked at what a great variety and quality of flowers they have at such an affordable price!

:: VASES
Along with flowers and plants, I LOVE a good vase. No matter the season, it is a great way to add texture, color, and personality to your space. Having fun colored vases in your home is a great way to decorate on a budget for parties too! I am obsessed with these fun pops of color from Drew Barrymore’s new Flower Home Line at Walmart. The whole collection is full of pieces that have such a fun summery eclectic vibe! When you compare the quality to the price tag, you will be shocked! They are so well made and I know I will have them for years! I stocked up on a few fun colors because I know I will use them down the road for parties and gifts too!

:: PILLOWS + BLANKETS
One more quick and easy way to brighten your space for summer without breaking the bank is with pillows and throw blankets. Just by adding a brighter color blanket to the arm of a chair, or switching out the pillows on your couch can give you a completely new look!

Raise your hand if you love a good couples getaway?! I can’t even tell you how bad Joe and I needed this little trip together. He has been working some wild hours and it felt like we hadn’t even had a real conversation in weeks! What made it even better was meeting up with a bunch of the couples from our “Residency Family” at our very favorite hotel in Scottsdale! I shared a few clips of our trip over on Instagram and had lots of questions about the hotel + our favorite places to eat, so I thought I would share a little review + recap with you here today!
When it comes to design, you can sum me up in probably a handful of words. Modern, Clean, Minimalist, Bright, Simple. Hotels are often times not my jam. I just can’t handle all the cheesy themes and dark colors (hiding dirt and germs) they often have. So when I first laid eyes on the Andaz Scottsdale, you could say I was in love. Joe found it last year when we came to Arizona all on his own and I was honestly blown away. It is basically set up as a neighborhood of modern concrete bungalows. My design heaven. They are connected by sidewalks lined with tons of greenery and desert flowers.
We loved it so much we had to come back again this year with friends! Since we had let the hotel know we were coming as a group of couples, they set us up so just our groups bungalows had a common courtyard in the middle. We each had a couple chairs and it was so perfect to be able to have our late night conversations and not have to pile on someones bed in the hotel room, or just to come and go from the pool and restaurant together.
Your little sidewalk from your bungalow takes you right over to the resort pool as well. It is a big open area with tons of chairs and places to relax. I loved that while the resort was fully booked, we still felt like we had our own private space. It wasn’t small or cramped at all, like a lot of hotels. The restaurant on site is just as amazing and we could’ve eaten there for every meal!
As if the grounds and exterior of the resort wasn’t enough, the actual rooms and bungalows are just as amazing! Everything is so CLEAN, and open and the natural light in every room is my favorite. The modern furniture and accents are so my style and give it such a new fresh feel. You honestly feel like you are staying in a your own private home. The hotel feel just isn’t there at all!
Although we really could’ve stayed at the resort for food and fun the entire weekend, the location itself is one of my favorite parts of the Andaz. You could easily get a quick Uber or take the super fun scooter rentals over to the restaurant and shopping district of Scottsdale. The food scene in Scottsdale is unreal and we had a hard time narrowing it down to just enough spots for a weekend stay! If you need recommendations, we shared all of our favorite eats + your amazing recommendations in our Arizona Travel Guide.
If you are planning a couples trip, I highly recommend Scottsdale in the Spring! I grew up coming here to visit my aunt so it holds a special place for us. We honestly love it and plan to make it a regular vacation spot! The Andaz is the perfect place to get away and you will honestly feel like you are in your own little private oasis!
When it comes to beauty products, I tend to stick with what I know. I just have never liked the mystery or risk of investing in a high end product based off of recommendations only. You could say I’m always just a little nervous to branch out to new beauty products. But then a friend reminded me about Nordstrom’s free samples, and you guys it is a game changer!!! I kind of went into thinking it was too good to be true, but I had such a good experience that I had to share the little tip with you guys! You can go in and be as vague as “help me find a foundation”….or more detailed and they are so dang helpful at getting you exactly what samples will work best. I was able to find the new beauty products below and I am legit in love with all of them, so I wanted to share my new finds with you!
First up is foundation. I haven’t worn foundation at all for yearsssss. Like since my college days probably. So to say I was clueless in what to try would be pretty accurate. I told them I wanted something that evened out your skin, but didn’t feel heavy at all. They gave me a sample of this Tom Ford foundation and I really love it! It is so light weight, but gives you great coverage without looking cakey at all. It has kind of a satin finish that gives you that sunny glow without looking greasy at all. I love that I was able to get a couple of samples to make sure I got the color match right that I wanted, and now I plan to snag it in full size!
:: COMPLEXION ENHANCING PRIMER
Along with the foundation above, they recommended this primer. I’ve used a few primers before and wasn’t too thrilled with the results, so I went into this one thinking it wasn’t really necessary. You guys, it is AMAZING. The best way I can describe it is that it wakes you up! It brightens and evens out your skin tone helping mask those tired mama eyes and minimizes your pores as well. Basically gives you the brightest prettiest clean slate to work with! Loving it!
:: FLAWLESS FINISH SETTING POWDER
Of the list, this setting powder is by far my very favorite. I swear it is like magic. It is amazing. I originally got it to use for photo shoots, but I already want to use it every single day. It is suppose to “blur” your skin so it all just blends together in a natural look, eliminating any fine lines or pores. I cannot believe how great it works. If you were to take my advice on any one product on the list, it should be this one. It is made with rose wax and almond oil so it almost feels like it just hovers on top of your skin, it doesn’t weigh it down at all. I absolutely love the glow it gives your skin while staying so lightweight.
:: LIP LINER – PILLOWTALK
I’ll be the first one to say, lip liner has never been on my must haves when it comes to makeup. My lineup is real simple and I use very few products. But I had heard a few girlfriends rave about this lip liner, so I grabbed it while I was getting my samples and am SO SO glad I did. I love that it is waterproof so you aren’t having to constantly reapply throughout the day.The pigment is really amazing too, not too dull just a really strong pretty color. It goes perfectly with all my nude and pink lipsticksand I feel like it really enhances your lips. It is worth every single penny!
:: BROW CONDITIONER
This brow conditioner is supposed to enhance your natural brows. My natural brows struggle a little bit, so I was excited to try out something that helps your actual brow itself. It has Biotin in it which I think we’ve all heard of for our hair and nails, but I never really considered for brows. I’ve only been using it for about 2 weeks, but so far I’m loving the results. I”ll keep you updated on this one!
:: PERFUME
Perfume is always something I’m so hesitant to branch out on. I think you get used to your own “smell” so changing it up can be hard. This was probably the biggest reason I loved Nordstrom’s sample option. Having the sample size lets me test it out for a month and see if I really do love the smell before I fully commit to such a price investment. Right now I feel like I like this one that I got, but am still getting used to it so I can’t 100% recommend it. I’ll let you know if I commit to it as well!
:: LIPSTICK
Last but not least is this lipstick. It is definitely not new to me at all, but I had to include it on this list of new favorites because I’m obsessed with it AND I am trying a new color! I’ve been a devoted MAC Lipstick wearer for as long as I can remember. I love the creamy smooth way it goes on and I swear they have all the perfect shades. Paired with the Pillowtalk Lip Liner above it is the perfect lip duo.
That sums up the new beauty products I’m loving! If you are anything like me, I highly recommend shopping your beauty at Nordstrom. Not only are you always going to have high quality products, but they give you the option to really find what you need and love through the samples first, before investing. If you find any new beauty products you are loving, share them with me here! I’d love to hear your reviews!

Joe and I just got back from a little weekend getaway in Scottsdale with our Residency Family! We call them family because after going through the ups and downs of Medical Residency together, they honestly became as close as family to us. It was the perfect little getaway, and exactly what we needed to reconnect and have some time just relaxing and having fun!! I shared quite a little bit about our trip over on Instagram, and have had SO many questions on everything from swim suits to food, and all the details on where we stayed. Since I didn’t want to overwhelm you, I’ve broken it down into two posts! Next week I’ll be sharing our top things to do, see, and eat in Scottsdale, so today I’m covering inside my suitcase! All my favorite swim suits, cover ups, sandals and new spring favorites!
One thing that was HUGE for us this time around, was the fact that Joe and I shared ONE single carry on sized suitcase. Yes you read that right! I know it was only a weekend getaway, but keeping things minimal was so so nice. I learned on our trip to Hawaii that focusing on multi-functional pieces is a GAME CHANGER. I’ve shared my best packing tips and tricks here for you to check out, but I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty impressed with myself! So with that in mind, here is what I packed in my suitcase this go around!
One of the reasons I was most excited to go to Scottsdale was to see the sunshine! Northern Utah is still feeling pretty moody about staying warm! Haha! So of course one of top things to throw in my suitcase was a good swimsuit! A girl can never have too many right? Haha! As much as I hate shopping for them, I love finding great timeless pieces, and the one I grabbed for this trip definitely fits that! I’m obsessed! I had heard so many great things about the quality and uniqueness of the suits from Albion Fit, so I gave it a shot and instantly fell in love!! The fit was perfect and holds you in in all the right places! I loved the uniqueness of the cut and the more neutral simple colors. I highly recommend their suits!
As far as the clothes that I packed, I really tried to focus on good mix and match basics. Things that could easily be dressed up for going out to dinner, but still totally casual for around the hotel or doing some shopping. Versatile is key for me when packing my suitcase.
For bottoms, I went with basic jeans (can’t go wrong with a classic) and then a pair of white jeans to add a little pop. Tops I did a basic black tee and a graphic tee. I went with black because it is a classic pair with jeans, but throw on some jewelry, nicer sandals, and the white jeans and you have a dressed up look for a night out.
We did a little shopping and I snagged a couple of fun pieces like these stripe pants and cute basic top in yellow. I love getting to shop summer clothes a little early in a warm location so I am stocked up for whenever Utah decides to be ready for summer!
Last but not least, were two jumpsuits. This one that I wore there is also from Albion and SO DANG COMFY. I felt like I was wearing pajamas.Jumpsuits are a travel favorite because they can so easily transition from day to night and really work with any plans you have! I love the classic look of this black one, but am always up for a fun pop too like you see here. Like I said, I kept it super simple, but loved that I still had options!
Since we were only gone for a quick 48 hours, I only took two pair of shoes. I asked for your vote over on Instagram and honestly loved hearing your opinions and how invested you were in my choice! Haha! You can never go wrong with these flip flops. They are of course perfect for a day at the pool, but I love that they look high end enough to go with your night look too. My other choice was these leopard flats. I don’t know about you, but I’ve pretty much adopted leopard as a neutral! I went with them because again, they are so great with jeans, swim, jumpsuit, anything!
First up is of course my travel sized Tula line up. I love that I don’t have to switch up my normal routine when traveling, because they have all my favorites it a convenient travel size kit. The kits are so good, that I actually gifted them to my girlfriends that were on the trip with us! It comes with my favorite cleanser, moisturizers, exfoliating wipes, and eye cream. They are still so much product for their smaller size and totally worth the price with my 20% off code! (code : kailee )
In addition to those, the only other must haves this time were my Vitamin C Serum and Tinted sunscreen from Form. If you are looking for a good face sunscreen, this is it!! I love that it protects my face AND I don’t have to put heavy makeup on just to lay by the pool. It is just enough to even out your skin tone. So so lightweight and not greasy at all! (use code kailee10 for 10% off!) Besides those, I threw on some of this amazing lip mask and that is it!
For hair, the only thing that is really a must have for me is dry shampoo! Haha! This is because I rarely wash my hair while we are traveling. Then you have to drag along all the tools and products you need for that too. I can maintain clean looking hair with my hat and dry shampoo power couple! Having my new short hair this time around was kind of a bonus as well. I didn’t have all that long hair to deal with, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of loving it!
And last but definitely not least when it comes to beauty is my tanning stuff! I’ve shared here before that I love this tanning machine. But it is such a pain to bring along traveling, especially when you are just doing a carry on. So you can imagine how THRILLED I was when I found the same brands travel solution set. It was exactly what I needed to keep up with my tan through the trip. Highly highly recommend!

I think that covers all the things inside my suitcase for this trip! Super simple and condensed and I loved it! If I missed anything or you have any packing questions, please ask here or on Instagram! I am happy to help!
Is it just me, or does your go to purse/diaper bag feel like more of a survival kit? It is filled with the things that will get you through the day. Whether it is the charger that keeps you connected all day, the lipstick that helps you fake it till you make it, or the wipes that save you from alllll the messes, what you include can make or break your day! I honestly feel like what a persons must have bag items are kind of gives you a peek into their personality and lifestyle. So I thought it would be fun to show you my must have bag fillers for a typical day!
You’ve probably seen my share about this at least 100 times. But you guys, it is because it is that good!! I don’t know about you, but being out and about and seeing my battery get in the red zone stresses me out so much! My phone is kind of like my life line when it comes to schedules, to do lists, and keeping in touch with Joe and my people. This little gadget gives you complete peace of mind. It can charge your phone up to 7 times before it needs a recharge itself. I ALWAYS have one in my bag and a spare in the car too. It is the best gift for just about any person you know, and I promise they will thank you constantly after receiving it! I never leave home without it!
:: LIPSTICK
Being a busy mom of 5, getting makeup on for the day takes a back seat pretty often. I’ve got a lot on my plate and sometimes that doesn’t make it up there before I have to be on the go. That is why I always carry some of my favorite lipstick in my bag. Let’s call it a mom hack. You can throw on some quick lipstick and sunnies and you look like you’ve got things together. Nobody in that school drop off or grocery pick up line is the wiser. You’re welcome! And if you haven’t tried this lip sleeping mask, treat yo self right now!! It is life changing. I use it day and night and can’t get enough. Your lips feel amazing!
:: SNACKS
We never leave home without being prepared with snacks. Nobody likes a hangry baby, and a hangry mom isn’t much better! My go to for the babies are these pouches. Even my big kids love them and I love that they are at least somewhat healthy and help fill them up for longer. For me, you all know my go to is going to be the G2G bar. It is the yummiest candy bar tasting protein bar you will ever taste. They are the perfect thing to hold me over between meals and something you will always find in my bag! And bonus, you can use code kailee for 20% off. Order the PB Chocolate…you’ll thank me later!
:: DIAPERS
With Harper still in diapers, you know this is definitely always on my list! I always make sure to have at least a few of our favorite Pampers Pure diapers in the bag so we are prepared on the go! We have loved using their diapers because they are clinically proven hypoallergenic and gentle for baby’s delicate skin, and we never have to worry about leaks which is a life saver when you are out and about a lot! Plus the patterns are always so cute- especially the new ones they just released!
:: WIPES
Of course along with diapers, we always include some Pampers Pure Aqua Wipes as well. While they are of course great for diaper changes, we love and use them for so much more than that! Since they are 99% water, I honestly use them for all the things. Wiping the babies’ faces and hands down, cleaning off the car seat, wiping down the grocery carts when we are shopping or high chairs at a restaurant, wiping down the car if it’s looking a little trashed, they are seriously the best for EVERYTHING! I always have a pack in my bag and a pack in the car…and basically every room of our house.
:: WATER COLOR BOOKS
Having babies in tow, I have to think of their entertainment when it comes to packing my bag too. I don’t like to add a million different toys that take up tons of space in my bag. My favorite go to are these water color books. They are completely mess free, take up hardly any space, and the babies love them!! They are great to hand back to them when we are in the car, or watching the big kids sports.
:: HAIR TIES
With 3 girls + myself, hair ties definitely make the cut when it comes to my bag necessities. Sometimes I will have my hair down and by the time I’ve ran all the circles of errands, I need it up and out of my way. They are great to have when I pick the girls up from school or a friends and take them to a game or practice so they can quickly pull their hair up out of the way. I swear they disappear on us all the time, so we always make sure my bag is fully stocked with them! We love these ones because they don’t leave a crease in your hair either!
:: GUM + MINTS
This one is probably a given and a must have in most peoples bags. I always make sure I have my bag stocked with gum and mints so I never have to worry about me (or my people) having bad breath!
:: CLEAR ORGANIZING BAGS
If you know me at all, you know that I have to have things clean and organized to function, and my bag is no exception. These clear zipper bags are a life saver when it comes to keeping things organized. I love that they are clear so I can easily find what I’m looking for. They are great to separate lipsticks, hair ties, chargers, gum + mints, all the things!
:: WATER BOTTLE
Last but not least is a water bottle. I’ve been really trying to up my water intake lately. Being constantly on the go, that means bringing it along with me. I love that these water bottles keep my water nice and cold while I’m out and have the convenient straw lid! But I also stumbled upon these new bottles and am obsessed! They have little markers on the side that help you track your water intake for the day. It seems like such a small thing, but I have been doing so much better getting it all in daily!

So now that I’ve shared my favorites, I wanna know! What are your go to must haves for your stocking your bag?
Somehow the years have flown by and we already have TWO kids in the braces stage! I feel like I was just going through all of that myself and yet here we are! A lot of you seem to be in the same boat too! As much as it can be a hard + stressful stage, we have loved working with Dr. Elison and his team! They are always so friendly and willing to answer alllll the questions we ever have. When we shared about our appointments over on Instagram you had so many questions too, so we reached out to Dr. Elison and he took the time to answer them all for you!! From why we chose him + his team to the ins and outs of braces, we’ve covered it all below!
:: WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE DR. ELISON AND HIS TEAM? (this first one was for me of course, not Dr. Elison)
Joe and I are a little crazy when it comes to things like this. We do a TON of research before committing. When we knew we were about ready to get the kids started on braces, I asked for all of your suggestions over on Instagram. We got probably 20 different ones. Once we narrowed it down to the ones closest to our area, we started asking around for friends opinions. We even went in, and had consultations with more than one office.
I can’t even begin to tell you how impressed we were with Dr. Elison and his whole office. He took the time to explain everything in a way we could all understand, and answered so many of our questions. And don’t get me started on his other employees. First of all they are so kind and welcoming. Sometimes when you come in to an office like that with a herd of 5 kids (2 of them toddlers) you can feel that you are a disturbance or a bother. We NEVER felt that with them. They always go out of their way to help me out with anything. In addition to that, they do such a great job of making sure your kids who are going through these crazy changes and pain of braces fully understand what is going on and feel like they understand and can ask questions.
I suggest really looking into the office and all of the employees, not just the orthodontist, when making your choice. This isn’t a one time thing, you are going to in there every 6 weeks, so you want it to be a place you really feel comfortable with how you are treated as well as their skills and professionalism. You will hands down get that from Dr. Elison!!
:: WHAT AGE SHOULD YOU START BRINGING YOUR KIDS IN TO CONSIDER BRACES? WHY HAS THE RECOMMENDATION CHANGED TO DOING BRACES IN 2 PHASES? IS IT BETTER TO START OUT YOUNGER?
When most people think of orthodontics, they think of teenagers. And the fact is, most orthodontic treatment begins between the ages of 9 and 14, however, by age 7, most children have a mix of adult and baby teeth. Orthodontists can spot subtle problems with the jaw growth and emerging teeth while some baby teeth are still present. That’s important because some orthodontic problems are easier to correct if they are found early. For these reasons, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child get an orthodontic check- up no later than age 7. While your child’s teeth may appear to be straight, there could be a problem that only an orthodontist can detect.
Even if a problem is detected, your orthodontist may not recommend immediate treatment. Chances are, I will take a “wait-and–see” approach, checking on your child from time to time as the permanent teeth come in and the jaws and face continue to grow. For each patient who needs treatment, there is an ideal time for treatment to begin in order to achieve the best results.
Sometimes a problem might be found that can benefit from early treatment. Early treatment may prevent more serious problem from developing, and it may make treatment at a later age shorter and less complicated. Typically, early treatment involves guiding the growth of young bones and creating a better environment for the adult teeth as they emerge. In some cases, we are able to achieve results that wouldn’t be possible once the face and jaws have finished growing. Early treatment gives us the chance to guide jaw growth, lower the risk of trauma to protruded teeth, correct harmful oral habits, improve appearance and self-esteem, guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position, and improve the way the lips meet.
:: What happens when you start braces early and then wisdom teeth arrive?
A common belief is that wisdom teeth cause crowding of the front teeth, but many studies have shown this is not the case. However, most people do need to have their wisdom teeth removed because there simply is not room for them to erupt. After each case is completed we do x-rays and evaluate the state of the wisdom teeth and make a plan with the patient as to what should be done. If necessary, we will then refer them to an oral surgeon.
:: Would you recommend braces or Invisalign as an adult? I had braces when I
was younger but my teeth have shifted.
Invisalign is great for cases that aren’t really complicated. For someone who has issues with their bite or crowding braces would more than likely be a better choice. Sounds like in this case, where the patient already went through braces and then has experienced some shifting, Invisalign would be just as good of an option as
normal braces.
:: BEFORE’S ::
:: Do you recommend getting a permanent retainer or not? Are there positives
and negatives to having one.
After orthodontic treatment is completed retainers are necessary to keep the teeth from shifting. I prefer to use retainers that are bonded to the back of the teeth. The great benefit of this is that they cannot be taken out and lost or forgotten about. Cleaning the teeth is a little harder but by using a floss threader cleaning between the teeth is not difficult. However, in certain cases, if hygiene is an issue, I will do a removable retainer instead.
:: How much does a round of braces typically cost?
The cost of braces depends on what the treatment is. Orthodontics costs about $2,000-$5,000. We do initial exams at no cost to the patient so it is easy to come in to our office and find out exactly what your individual case would entail.
:: Are bottom braces really necessary? Or is it just extra as more of a cosmetic
thing?
Yes, bottom braces are usually a necessary part of orthodontic treatment. As the teeth are moved, it is important that we are able to use both the top and lower arches to align the bite.
:: Why are braces better than invisalign for kids?
There are always exceptions, but for the most part braces are better for children because we are correcting not only crowding but in most case we are also correcting their bite. Invisalign is great for cases with minimal crowding, but doesn’t allow us to correct problems with the bite. And honestly, Invisalign requires a lot of compliance, which isn’t always easy for kids.
:: Do you offer any kind of family (multi-kid) discount?
Yes!! Each additional child in a family that is brought in to our office for treatment receives a discount.
:: My daughter just got braces a few months ago, and we are now moving out of
state. Can we continue with our current set with a new orthodontist, or are we
going to have to start completely over?
Great question. We have patients transfer in from other areas and we also have patients that move. A lot of orthodontists will accept patients who are already in treatment. I do, because I know that I would want my patients who move out of state to be able to continue their treatment. As far as continuing on with the braces that are already in place, for me, that depends on the individual case. If everything seems to be going well and I like the braces that they have on then I just pick up and continue on with their treatment. However, sometimes I will see patients that I don’t like what is happening with their previous treatment .
. . .
Hopefully this helps answer your orthodontist questions! I know from experience making all the decisions regarding braces can be overwhelming, and we have been so grateful to Dr. Elison and his sweet team for not only being so knowledgeable, but always taking the time to explain things not only to me but to my kids so they understand the whole process and feel included in the changes. If you have any other questions, please leave them here and we will add it to the post!
A couple months ago over on Instagram, I asked you guys to send over alllll your questions for Joe and I to answer in little Q + A. We were absolutely shocked when a good chunk of the questions were all about our time in medical school and residency! From handling the time being apart, to where we applied, you guys wanted to know all the things. So today we are featuring a little “part 2” q + a with Joe, answering all your medical school and residency questions!
:: Where did you go to Medical School and Residency?
I went to Medical School at University of Louisville in Kentucky. My residency and fellowship were at Loma Linda University in California.
:: Did you go through Medical School with together?
Yes were went through the whole process together from Day 1 because we were married!
:: What made you want to become a doctor?
I am not going to go into this much. What I will say is that I love learning/reading and this is especially true when it comes to how the human body works. The human body is an amazing gift to us. For those who are considering the field, I would say do not go into it for the money. The road is long and difficult and if you don’t enjoy learning you will regret it. There are plenty of other ways to make money. You have to define what success looks like to you. Being a Dr may (and sometimes may not) bring you a good income. But the random on call nights and long hours that you put in are just a few (among many) of the costs that come with it.
It is definitely not a job that is Monday thru Friday with all weekends and holidays off and where you never have to worry about a your job when you are at home. To me it is almost a 24/7 job because it is kind of always on your mind. Success most definitely isn’t just how much money you make. So honestly define it for yourself and see what career puts you closest to that definition, which is different for everybody.
:: Was Anesthesiology your dream job? Why did you choose your specific field?
I wouldn’t say it was my dream job. Before Medical School, I shadowed an anesthesiologist and thought it was a cool job. I honestly enjoyed every rotation as a student except for OBGYN. But it was one of my first clinical rotations in my clinical years so probably a little unfair opinion there. Anyways, I did find that anesthesia and the things you need to know and be able to do as an anesthesiologist interested me a lot and kind of drew me to the specialty.
When it came down to decision time, I was between anesthesiologist and a family medicine doctor. I chose anesthesia because I enjoyed more critical care of patients in the operating room where things can change quickly and dramatically. What I didn’t know when I chose this specialty, was how much I would enjoy the patient interaction. A lot of people are scared and nervous about the operation and rightfully so. So it is so fun for me to help them through that time and to have a good experience that day. As good as can be expected anyways.
:: How did you apply to school/choose which schools? What was the application process like?
At the time the application was one central application that you filled out online. You literally clicked a box next to the schools you wanted to apply to. If after that they wanted more information some of them would have a secondary application. I applied to a lot of schools to increase the likely hood of being accepted somewhere that year. My brother who is a radiologist in Idaho told me to apply to some top rank schools, some lower ranked schools, and a lot of the middle ranged schools. We decided on what areas we would be willing to go to and went from there. I did this in close cooperation with Kailee since it was a high possibility that I would be asking her to move across the country.
:: How did you go about finding doctors to shadow to be able to apply to medical school?
This was easy for me, we had a family friend that was an Anesthesiologist. My mom is a nurse so I am sure she could have helped me find someone as well if needed.
:: How did you survive having a family and going to medical school/residency?
It was very difficult at times. There were week stretches where I wouldn’t see the kids because I left before they woke up and got back after they were in bed. When I get asked this by people I will usually just say I have an awesome wife. Kailee is the only reason we have survived, and I mean that. She has been a huge support and has put up with so much through the years.
:: What is your advice on dating through medical school?
I didn’t date I was married. Always make the effort to just go do something simple with your spouse. Go grocery shopping together, go get a treat at dairy queen. A date doesn’t have to be a huge thing. We both grew up in homes that taught us the value of the family. Having kids was something that we both wanted to do and we knew that from the start even before we were married so we have worked hard to create a good environment for the kids and that similar goal has got us through a lot. Your spouse always come first.
:: For Kailee, was it hard for you to keep everything running smoothly when Joe was in Medical School?
Honestly, it wasn’t that bad. At the time we only had 2 of the little people, and not a lot of things to go and do, so it was just taking care of them during the day. We didn’t have a lot on our plate besides grocery shopping and a few years down the road preschool. Nothing too extreme.
:: How did you survive never seeing him?
Medical school was new to get used to, but not terrible. You still got to see them on the weekends, so like with a lot of jobs I just told myself I had to survive until Friday, and then we would get to see him and have his help. I tried to do all the things during the week, so when the weekend came around we could truly enjoy those 48 hours and not waste them on chores or shopping. Residency is a whole different ball park. The 2nd and 3rd year are pure hell, there is no sugar coating it. You basically do not see them ever, and we had more of the little people so they missed him too.
The best advice I probably ever got in regards to this whole experience was from my sister in law. She told me to plan on him never being there. By that I mean anything from dinner time to a trip to the park, plan on doing it without them. Basically don’t get your hopes up. I think it gave me a more positive experience when we would go and do things because in my head I knew I was on my own. If we got lucky and he got off early and was able to come, we were all extra happy. But I would much rather have the bonus happiness than the disappointment or let down from getting my hopes up. If we knew he had a day off, we would not do anything else but enjoy the time with him. Everything else in life went on hold.
Another thing I can stress enough is to let people in. The other residency wives are the closest people on the planet to knowing exactly what you are going through. They get the long days, and weeks without really having a full conversation with your spouse. A lot of the time there family dynamic is the same as well. You can plan activities to go and do together. We often joked that they were more like sister wives. We would just take our herd of kids along husband free. I can truly say they are some of my very best friends still to this day because we were there for each other through some of the hardest years of our lives.
:: How have you been able to manage medical school debt and your loan repayment?
We planned ahead for what we were getting in to from the get go. We were able to figure out about how much our monthly payments would be on these loans, and then we did our best to see what other expenses would likely be for things like utilities, rent, food, etc. The whole reason was because we really wanted to make sure that we would have enough to save as well as pay off our debt quickly. I had a rough idea of what I would be making, but we planned conservatively in case it was lower than expected. We then overestimated our expenses, so we always had a buffer and were able to cover the needs as well as save.
I think it is important to talk about what you are willing to go in to debt for. For us it pretty much stops at school and home loans, so we take the time to save for any other purchases.
. . .
Hopefully that answers all your medical school + residency questions for us!! If we missed any, please leave them here in the comments or over on Instagram and we will add them to this post!
Friday is finally here and we are ready for the weekend!! Something about the weather finally cooperating just makes the weekend that much more exciting! When I was trying to think of what to share with you for today’s Friday Faves, I decided to keep it pretty simple, and share my current favorites that I’ve recently stumbled upon and am LOVING! So no real theme this time around, but sometimes life is better a little random right?! We still have some awesome new products to share with you for today’s Friday Faves!
Is it just me, or have cute long shorts been impossible to find in the past?! I swear they all just screamed old lady or were just not cute on. But have no fear because I finally found the BEST pairI am loving (and bought in both colors). They are the perfect length, and the fabric has just enough stretch to be comfortable but not so much that you have a saggy bum by lunch time. You are going to want to snag some of these for your summer staples.
While my love for ice cream runs deep, I’ve never really been a big fan of candy. With that being the case, we usually don’t have too much of it around the house, because I do my best to offer more natural/healthy snack options. But you guys, I had a friend tell me to at least try the Black Forest Gummy Bearsand we officially have a new family favorite!!
The flavors are so juicy and delicious, not fake or artificial tasting at all, because they are made with REAL fruit juices. Even the coloring comes from natural plant sources. So while your little people (and you because you won’t be able to say no) are enjoying a new treat, you can feel better about your choice! I love using them as little chore motivators or to keep everyone happy in the car. Annnnd speaking from experience, you are going to want to steal all the strawberry bears out before you share because they are that good! This post is sponsored by Black Forest. All opinions are my own.
:: CLASSIC JEWELRY
Is there anything better than classic timeless jewelry? It is the perfect accessory to just about any look. I love having pieces that I can wear for years and hold a special place in my heart. You guys are always asking what my necklaces are because I honestly wear them daily, so what better time to share the details than Friday Faves! Both of my necklaces that I wear daily (and a few more I rotate) are from Made By Mary. Mary is the sweetest you will ever find, and the special meaning behind her pieces are all so amazing. I love that you can customize to have anything from your babies names, husbands initials, a meaningful date, the sky is the limit, so your piece is truly unique and special to you!
I love them so much that I asked if we could get an exclusive code and for this weekend only you can get 15% off using code WRIGHT15! They make the perfect gift for yourself, mom, sisters, bff, everyone!! So HURRY because it doesn’t last long and these codes are so rare!
:: JEWELRY CASE
In addition to all the gorgeous pieces being on sale with my exclusive code, this incredible jewelry case is as well! It is such a game changer for storing your necklaces without them getting all tangled. I love the clean classic look that it has, just like the jewelry it holds, and that it is so tiny making it perfect for traveling! You can score 15% off of it as well with code WRIGHT15! How cute would it be to get a necklace and the case for a birthday or Mother’s Day Gift?!
When Joe and I went to Hawaii, I shared this amazing swim suit find with you. It honestly does not get better than this cut on a swim suit. The lines are so flattering and it hits you in all the right places so you aren’t showing too much bum, but doesn’t flatten the bum either. I love it so so much and apparently you guys did too because they only have it left in a large BUT I just checked the site and they have the most darling pattern available now. I’d even go as far as to say it might be cuter than the blue stripe! I am so excited for it to get here!!
:: PRIMER
If there was an item in the Friday Faves I wanted to shout from the rooftops, this is it. I feel like it is life changing! I’ve always been kind of “fine” with skipping the primer step because well more work for me. But I stumbled across this gem and cannot believe the difference it makes!! It instantly shrinks all signs of your pores and little fine lines and gives you the smoothest complexion. It helps your makeup not just go on better and smoother, but actually stay where it belongs for longer. I have been using it for a couple of weeks and LOVING the results!
:: WHITE NAIL POLISH
This warm weather has me feeling all sorts of happy! Just feeling the sunshine on my skin is so so good. With warm weather comes all the fun happy nail colors, and if you know me you know white is one of my go to colors. I love that it gives you a clean bright look, but the best party is I feel like it helps you look tanner too. Win win in my book! You can’t go wrong with such a classic!
:: MEAL PREP CONTAINERS
Last but not least on this slightly random Friday Faves collection are these meal prep containers. If you are just starting out to meal prep, I shared some of my tips over here. Having these containers will simplify things ten fold. They are sturdy enough to reuse, but cheap enough that if you are on the go and just need to trash it, its not the end of the world. I love that they are already sectioned off making it quick and easy to prep things, but not worry about them all mashing together. Such a steal for sanity savers!
Is there such thing as too many pairs of leggings?! I’m going to go ahead and give you permission to say no to that! If you know me you know I never pass up a chance to match my little people, so when I saw these leggings it was game over. Does it get any cuter than thoselittle baby legs in leggings?! I think not. Plus the quality of sweaty betty leggings (and all their products) is so good. Buttery soft and such amazing quality!
. . .
I think that sums up this weeks Friday Faves! I’d love to hear your feedback on these posts and if you think they are helpful! If you have a product of any kind you are loving and is just your go to fave you share with all your girlfriends, I wanna know!! Leave me a comment here or over on Instagram so I can try it out and feature it here too!
Can you guys even believe we are coming up on a year and a half of living in our home?! I swear it has flown right by. But at the same time I feel like we have already made so many amazing memories together in this space! If you’ve been here over that past 17 months, then you know I took you through a bit of a design tour and gave you a look inside how we laid out and designed each of our spaces from the kitchen all the way down to the laundry room and everything in between! Now that we’ve had time to kind of settle and see what works best for our family and our needs, we’ve made a few changes that I wanted to share with you today in a little house update!
The biggest changes we have made have been in our family room + office. I shared a little office update a couple of weeks ago. So today the focus will be on the heart of our home, the kitchen and family room.
So I’m sure some of you are probably wondering why we did a complete change up from the original family room, after only living here for a year. And there are kind of a few answers to that. One, I think I was just in such a rush to get out of the rental and get my people in our home together for the holidays (that were a week away), that I didn’t spend a lot of time on the decisions. I just needed places to sleep and beds to sleep in. So I rushed things. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the space we designed and the pieces we had. But after testing it out for a year, there were just changes that needed to be made for functionality for our family.
So with that in mind, I called up my cute cousin that has worked as an interior designer for Gatehouse for over 20 years, and said I needed her input on the new design I had in mind. Joe has ALWAYS wanted a sectional up here. But in my head I just didn’t want a big bulky “man cave” looking piece in our main space. I’m all about clean and simple. To me that wasn’t going to fit the mold. BUT Gatehouse proved me wrong! We were able to have them custom make this sectional that we are all in love with!! I feel like we can fit so many more of our family and friends in the space, but the room still feels so open!
But as a mom to 5 little people, the thing I love most about this sectional is the fabric we used. I know you are all looking at this thinking “a white couch?! are you insane?!” And the answer is no, because of the magic of crypton. I’m not going to lie, when they told me it could handle any spills and be completely wipe-able, I kind of laughed, like wait until you see what 5 kids can do to it. But I am here to say it is true! We have already had blood, pizza sauce, pretty much all the terrible things spilled on it and it has wiped right off WITH A BABY WIPE! Like no scrubbing and still seeing the faint stain. It is GONE. I could not be happier about how it turned out!
Since we updated the furniture we needed to switch up the rug as well. I honestly had always wanted the rug to cover up more of the tile. But I could never find one giant enough in stock. With the light colored furniture and super bright windows, I wanted something that brought a little more depth and texture to kind of ground the space. So I finally decided I need to put on my patient pants and order the one I wanted and wait it out. And it was worth the wait!! I found it through Ed By Ellen, and was actually so surprised at how many amazing rug options they have that I hadn’t seen anywhere else. They were amazing to work with through shipping delays and all the things. I think it totally ties the room together perfectly!
In addition to all the bigger changes to the main family living space, we made some smaller changes as well throughout the house that we have had some questions about. One of the most asked about is our kitchen table. (Sold out, very similar linked) We changed it out shortly after moving here just because we needed a change. We had done the bench seating with our old table for years. With the people getting bigger we just wanted a change. I LOVE the clean modern look of the table, and that the black accent of the chairs ties it in with our hardware and windows in the space. Not a huge difference but it has been such a great change!
And last on the little house update is this stool. Ha! Nothing shocking and crazy. But every single time I show even the slightest glimpse of it, I get a million questions! You see it kind of all over the house because the babies are obsessed with it. They seriously use it to climb up and get all the things. So it is definitely well loved, but the quality is amazing and it still looks like new. I love that it still flows with the clean modern design of our home, but is totally functional as well!
I think that sums up the house update for now, and hopefully answers all of your questions! If I missed any source questions, you can check out the other room posts I’ve linked down below! Leave anything else I missed in the comments and I will be sure to answer them!
