Holiday Gift Guide: Toddlers

Happy Monday!! We are so beyond excited for this week because we are sharing ALL of our holiday gift guides!! Hunter started us off with her picks for Teens, and by next Monday we will have highlighted everyone else on your list!! Today’s guide is one we got a ton of requests for, and is always so fun to put together! We are talking all about Toddlers and it is GOOD!! But I will tell you, if you are looking for a copy + paste toy ad from your local store, you aren’t going to find it here. This toddlers gift guide is full of our tried + true, timeless things that will last your kids for years to come, as well as some new items Harper + Houston have on their lists too! This doll has been hands down Harper’s favorite little toy since she was tiny. It is a plush baby doll that comes with little accessories so she can feel like a little mom. I love that it is lightweight for toddlers to carry around, and soft so she can sleep with it.And you can’t have the cutest baby doll without the most adorable accessories. Harper LOVES this baby swing and stroller. She is such a little mama and I think being able to things just like you makes them feel so grown up. We absolutely LOVE this little play kitchen.The babies will play with it for hours and they love to pretend to be cooking when I am. I swear by using balance bikes to teach your kids to ride a bike. They are amazing and take so much of the stress out of it! Both of my littles LOVE theirs and I love the confidence and prep it gives them for learning to ride a bike.

I love the creativity that these spark in my kids. They are easy to use for their little hands. I love that it encourages them to use their imaginations, practice colors, and fine motor skills. My babies love them but even the big kids still play with them.

Simplifying Your Holiday Decor

As soon as the temperatures drop around here, I feel like just snuggling up and enjoying my Christmas decor, and maybe never leaving my house again. Haha! I love how holiday decor can make your house feel so inviting and cozy. While these pictures are from last year, I am already starting my decorating because I want it to last forever! Ha! But honestly, it is one of my very favorite times of year, and I wish it lasted a few weeks longer!

Which brings me to the great debate. Are you a pre-Thanksgiving or post Thanksgiving decorator. I have no shame in admitting I want everything up within a day or two of Halloween!! It is just so magical I want to enjoy it for as long as possible So with that in mind, I thought it would be fun to share some ways you can decorate your home for the holidays while keeping it simple and affordable!

Stockings are such a simple, quick, and easy way to bring the holiday decor into your home. Who doesn’t love a festive mantle?! I am loving how many cute simple options there are this year!! It was hard to narrow down my favorites!

Christmas Garlands might just be one of my favorite parts of Christmas Decor. For me they are right up there with my actual Christmas Tree. When it comes to holiday decor, over doing it on the accessories can happen fast. There are just so many different themes + options out there that are so good, it is hard to not want to incorporate them all. For me, I stick to lots of greenery, a simple neutral color palette, and these custom Santa’s throughout the room. They bring a fun magical touch, but aren’t over bearing or taking away from my every day style. Your holiday decor style should mirror your every day home decor.

4 Things I Love About Exercise Bands

Anyone else out there just crave their workout time?! If my old self could see me now, I would be dying. I used to dread the thought of working out regularly and thought people were kind of nuts, but once I started I’m not sure how I lived without it. I totally crave that mix of mental clarity + pushing myself to do something harder. Since Covid, I have just been working out at home in our gym, and honestly kind of loving it! A lot of you are doing something similar and asking for ideas on how I make it work. So today I’m sharing all about my favorite at home workout accessory, the exercise band, and why I love using it on the regular!

:: TARGETS SPECIFIC AREAS

One of my very favorite thing about working with bands is how well they target specific areas. Just looking at that picture above, I can feel the added burn you get from doing it with the band. A lot of the moves you’ll see people do with bands look so simple and like they aren’t doing a lot. But I’m hear to tell you, those bands will target the tiny muscles you didn’t realize you had and BURN THEM OUT!

:: SUBSTITUTION FOR WEIGHTS

Bands are a GREAT substitution for weights too. Weights can seem a little daunting when you are first starting out, and bands are a great way to ease yourself in to the same moves without the weights at first. When you buy a pack like this one, they came with different tension levels just like using different weight amounts, so you can switch it up based on your strength and what area you are targeting.

:: TRAVEL FRIENDLY

One of the best perks about having exercise bands as a workout tool is how travel friendly they are. They are by far my favorite go to workout while traveling. 3 Quick Tips to Styling Your Couch Pillows Like A Pro

Let’s talk home decor! With the whirlwind of all things 2020, it has been a minute since I featured anything home decor related so I thought it would be fun to jump back into that today. I get a lot of questions on how I keep my house looking put together and clean, and while you are not seeing what it really looks like 24/7, there are some insider design tips that totally help give you a higher end look when it comes to the details! So today I want to talk all things pillows and share 3 tips that will you help you style your couch like a pro!

:: YOU DON’T NEED TO BE MATCHY MATCHY

Okay, this is may be the tip that will make the biggest difference when it comes to the overall look of your couch. About 10 years ago it was pretty popular (especially here in Utah) to match your pillows to each other, as well as to your art and throw blankets. I’m here to tell you, you don’t need to do that!

Instead of matching colors, I’d recommend coming up with a very loose color palette that you feel your living room fits into. An easy way to do this is to choose a season. Summer palettes would be bright, vibrant, with light sands and neutrals mixed up. Spring palettes would be muted and pastel in nature, perfect for farmhouse and traditional homes. Fall palettes are typically deeper, earthy, and natural in nature. And winter, well winter palettes are cool (think deep navy’s), clean and more masculine. What season do you think your space would fall into? It’s okay if it doesn’t match perfectly into one category, but that general idea will give you a great palette to work with when your selecting pillows and covers that work well together but aren’t “matchy”. Always think coordinating but not identical.

:: GO BIG OR GO HOME

Ok don’t take that too literally, but as a general rule, bigger pillows almost always look better (and are comfier) than small throw pillows. Definitely consider the scale of your couch when purchasing, but throughout our home, 20″x20″ are the go-to. I’m sure you’ve seen the “karate chopped” pillow all over the place, which makes a big difference in presentation. But my secret tip to having nice full + fluffy pillows…buy an insert that is one size larger than your pillow cover! It will automatically create a full, fluffy, karate chopped effect with little effort on your part!

:: TEXTURE IS EVERYTHING

You know how tip number one was about not being matchy matchy? I need you to keep that in mind when it comes to texture too! Texture is a detail that can make or break a perfectly styled couch! I love to mix and match textures when selecting throw pillows and blankets. You’ll notice our couch has a few tweed throw pillows which I love to use to juxtapose the more feminine pinks and oranges in the space. If your sofa is leather, opt for something soft for a few of your pillows like a velveteen trim or a faux fur in the winter. If your sofa is super soft and cushion-y, maybe go for a pillow cushion that is leather. Mix it up, I promise it will add so much!

Our Travel Guide: Mexico

As most of you saw over on Instagram, we just got back from Mexico with all of the Wright clan. Like most people, due to Covid and the pre-cautions we have been taking, we haven’t taken any big trips since we went to Hawaii in January, so this felt so crazy!! I’m usually such a planner, but we completely put all the plans in Joe’s brothers hands and absolutely loved it! We have been getting so many questions on where we stayed in Mexico, our thoughts about traveling during Covid + crossing the border to Mexico, and all the things, so I’m sharing our experience below!

:: GETTING THERE ::

First up, let’s talk getting there! The resort we stayed at is called Vidanta Puerto Peñasco. It is about 4 hours from downtown Phoenix, or I think around 2 hours from the US/Mexico border. Out of us, Joe’s 5 brothers, and his parents, 4 families drove the whole way, and 2 of us flew into Phoenix and rented a car.

My BIGGEST TIP/WARNING when getting there is to double and then triple check that your rental car allows their vehicles to be taken into Mexico. We got this tip from someone and called to check, thinking we were good to go. But after waiting in line for an hour and a half at the rental place, we were told we could not. I am pretty sure you are safe to use National but that is a big thing to verify. You are also required to Mexican Car Insurance with your rental as well, not just your normal insurance. I think this was an extra $250 ish for the week we were there.

As far as crossing the border goes, since we just drove across, our kids just had to have their passport. If you fly, they are required to have passports. I was nervous to cross, mostly just because of all the stories you hear, but it wasn’t bad, they just checked around in our car and let us go.

:: FOOD TIPS

Since we were staying at a resort that had full kitchens, we planned to stock up on groceries in order to save money and not go out every single meal. Some of Joe’s brothers had been there before and told us to grab any meat we wanted before we crossed the border. We grabbed hot dogs and lunch meat for sandwiches and had a shared cooler, but everything else we purchased there. The yogurt and other dairy stuff was DIVINE and so so yummy.

The resort is not too far from a Walmart + Sams Club. The morning we go there we headed over and stocked up on everything for breakfasts, easy lunches, and snacks. It was so so nice to be able to sleep in and do meals in the hotel and then just go out for dinners.

We drove in to the city/town (about 30 minutes) every night for dinner. These were some of our favorites!

:: La Curva (Mexican Food)

:: Mare Blu (so pretty out on the dock)

:: Pane Vino (yummy Italian with a pretty view if you sit upstairs)

:: Wrecked at the Reef (fun outdoor restaurant with a live band)

:: ACTIVITIES ::

Usually when we go on family vacations we are go go go, doing a lot of different excursions and planned activities. But this trip was all about relaxing and just enjoying our time with Joe’s family. We honestly did a lot of sleeping in and hanging around the resort. The pool was amazing and we did water aerobics with their instructor daily as well as played lots of volleyball in the pool. We absolutely loved the beach too! The tide went out almost a mile and the water was so shallow forever with no waves, so it was very kid friendly! It was also covered in so many shells!! The kids could’ve spent hours (and did!) gathering shells!

The resort also has a kids club you can pay for, which my kids LOVED! You can do half day for $12 or full day with lunch for $18. They had crafts and fun activities for them to do (while wearing masks) that they loved! The resort also had a Joy Squad that did fun events every day. We had a karaoke night, a beach party, movie night with free popcorn and so many more family friendly activities!

There are quite a few options for excursions if you want to go out and do them. We were just more about relaxing. Horseback riding, boat excursions, and paddle board rentals were some that looked fun!

:: COVID PRE-CAUTIONS ::

Last but not least, and something we’ve got asked about probably the most is the Covid pre-cautions. Flying to Phoenix was like any flight right now. We were all required to wear masks, hand sanitizer was provided (often) and snacks were served in individual baggies.

Covid pre-cautions in Mexico and at the resort were very similar to what we have here in the US. We were required to wear masks around the resort unless we were in our own rooms, in the pool or eating. They had hand sanitizer all around the property and did their best to help people to and social distance around the pool area.

4 Tips to A More Restful Sleep

If you are anything like me, good quality sleep kind of tends to take a back seat. We have jam packed schedules. I often times find myself staying up extra late and waking up early to tackle my to do list. Which results in no sleep. I know it makes such a huge difference in my focus, efficiency, and over all attitude, so it has been one of my major goals this year. With that in mind, I thought I would share some of the little tips + tricks that have helped me to see good results so far!

:: HAVE A SLEEP ROUTINE

Yes, I want you to treat yourself just like you would one of your kids. Give yourself a bedtime routine. Our bodies thrive off of routine and structure. The same goes for bedtime, which is why it works so well for kids. Knowing what to expect and having that same routine trains our brains to slow down and kind of prep themselves for sleep. For me that almost always includes a bath. It helps me relax, slow down, and take time to process the day without interruption.

:: PLAN ON GOING TO BED AN HOUR EARLIER THAN YOU REALLY WANT TO

As humans, especially women, we tend to overload our schedules and are always adding “just one more thing” to our to do list. One thing that has really worked great for me is to plan on going to bed an hour earlier than my goal. So if my goal is in bed lights out at 10, I try to plan on having everything done by 9 instead. By doing this, all the extras that come up aren’t pushing me back later than I want to be going to bed, and I am again enforcing that consistency of a bedtime for myself.

:: NO SCREENS 30 MINUTES BEFORE BED

This tip is definitely my most “work in progress” tip because it has been so hard for me. The end of the day is the time I finally have me time to plan out the coming day, and of course just veg out online. But having been successful at doing this a few times, I know what a big difference it makes. I fall asleep so much quicker when I limit screens before bed. I’m not getting sucked down the Instagram Rabbit Hole we all know and have a love/hate relationship. I have quite a few friends that have even gone to the lengths of charging their phone in a different room. It makes such a difference in your quality of sleep.

:: INVEST IN QUALITY BEDDING

Last but probably at the top of my tips list, is to invest in quality bedding. I never thought this made a difference at all. I would by just your average sheets and cheap pillow because you are just sleeping on it. But news flash Kailee, if you get 8 hours of sleep, that means the average person is SLEEPING for 1/3 OF THEIR LIFE! So that is probably far and above enough time to invest in the products that you are using.

You’ve heard me talk about them before, but Cariloha has been a dream come true (literally) for me when it comes to good quality sleep. Their products are made completely from bamboo and are the softest things you’ll ever try. If you’ve been around here for awhile you know I first fell in love with their towels. And it is much easier to fall asleep because of that comfort level.

What’s in My Amazon Cart: October Finds

I did a poll earlier this week, asking if you prefer shopping online or in store. About 70% of you were online shoppers and definitely my people! Combine the fact that I don’t have to get ready OR leave the house, and you have my vote! As a busy mom, anything that saves me time is a win in my book! Of course one of my most visited websites is an obvious for a lot of us, the amazing AMAZON! Seriously if it is not on Amazon, is it even worth having?! I’ve made it my mission to find more out of the box items lately. Things that make life easier, dupes on brands we love, and of course mom hacks and I am rounding them up on the regular over on Instagram. This little gadget has become such a game changer for distance learning! Something about seeing the time on the clock and having a countdown makes getting through those reading minutes that much easier! We have loved using it for school, chores, and anything we need to set a time limit for. I promise you and your kids will love it!

:: TONGUE SCRAPER

Yes you read that right. Tongue Scraper. And yes I was as skeptical as you probably are. Just reading the name sounds painful but I have heard it is the game changer when it comes to the nasty in your mouth that causes bad breath. I just got it so I haven’t put it fully to the test yet, but reviews say it not only helps clean your mouth and give you fresher breath, but is so great for your overall mouth health and increases your taste too. I will report back but I’m excited to try it out!

Anyone else feel like they are going back to their teen days with Dr Martens making a comeback?! I am all for it and love the cute styles they have. That being said, I don’t always love the higher price tag when I’m buying for my kids because I know they will grow out of the fast. So these total look a likes I found on Amazon were such a score! Highly recommend them!

If you have ever or plan on ever cooking ground beef then this little gadget is going to be your new best friend. I saw it on a friend’s Instagram and had to have it and I haven’t regretted it for a second. It makes separating the meat so dang easy! Definitely a tool you will use often and love in your kitchen.

:: BAMBOO BOWLS

When it comes to dishes for my kids, I am all about indestructible. But it doesn’t hurt for them to be cute too right?! I loved these bowls I found on Amazon so much that I just ordered more. They are a great quality, don’t look cheap or flimsy, and are just right for that bowl of cereal, or lets be honest ICE CREAM!

:: BOOTY BANDS

Last but not least are these booty bands. These I have actually had for a few months and am obsessed with them. I am here to tell you not all booty bands are created equally.
