Who doesn’t love a quick and easy cinnamon roll recipe? This recipe is a family favorite, my kids absolutely love it! Plus, the best part is I can get all the ingredients from Walmart for such a great price so it doesn’t break the bank! I’ve gone to other grocery stores, when I just needed a few quick items, and it’s almost double the price for my groceries. Plus, they deliver right to my door with Walmart+ so you can’t beat that! For this recipe, you only need 5 ingredients!! It’s super easy and a recipe that the whole family will love!

If you’ve been keeping up with my Instagram stories, then you know that the past 3 months of our life have been chaotic. But, it has been so humbling and eye-opening. In years to come, I truly feel that I will look back at this stage of life and will see how much growth and development I gained from these experiences. This post will share a lot of details about how we decided to sell our lot, and how I’m feeling about everything. Here is our last life update if you missed it!
OUR LIFE UPDATE
We sold the house! The buyers didn’t buy the house furnished, so we put all our furniture for sale on Instagram and you guys snatched it all up! We are so grateful for each and every one of you. It was so great to meet and squeeze you in person! We are feeling finally settled in the rental. We put our couch and dining table from the last house into the rental, and it has really made it feel like home.
The kids are loving the rental. Hunter has told me a million times how much she loves the rental because it’s just so simplified, and that’s what I’ve been holding on to. The rental has simplified our lives. It has way less space, so we have way less things in there. It’s made me really focus on the things that matter and it’s made Joe and I really think about our next house plans (do we really need that much space?), whenever that may be.
I finally took advantage of homeschool and took Hayden and Harper to Idaho to stay with my sister and help with her little boys! Joe told me to get away and get my mind off things and I knew my sister was missing home, so I just wanted to spend time with her and let the girls see their cousins. We didn’t do anything special, we just talked and loved on her boys and it was the perfect medicine for both of us.
Hunter went to her first high school dance! I can’t believe she’s this old. I vividly remember my first dance as a sophomore in high school, my date was Joe’s best friend! Haha! Here is the link to Hunter’s dress, I’ve had lots of questions about it. Hunter has also been doing great this season for soccer! I love love love watching her play and do what she loves.
Update on our lot: We found 6 acres that we absolutely love. We’re currently going back and forth with the city to see if a road has to go through all 6 acres. We were really excited about this land because it was flat farmland and everything that we were looking for. But we’re still just waiting it out. We were supposed to break ground twice on our lot on the hill… we actually had trucks up there twice to break ground, and that’s when the first house buyers fell through due to finances. So we put it on hold, and that’s when we decided to just sell the lot and no longer build. Honestly, deciding to sell our lot and not build anymore was one of the easiest decisions for us.
Both Joe and I went up to the lot on a Sunday and it just didn’t feel right, but we were trying to push through it. We’ve spent the past 2 years preparing, investing, and designing it, so we were like “why would we back out now”? Three days later, I broke down to Joe and told him that it didn’t feel right, and he felt the exact same way. And to us, that was the Holy Spirit who first told us individually and then we came together and decided that we needed to follow that inspiration. It really was the easiest decision, and we are so happy with it. The biggest thing we’ve learned these past few months is to trust our gut and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We are continually seeing God open different doors for us, and we’re just along for the ride to see what God has in store for us!
. . .
I know my life has been chaotic and fast-paced, so I love sharing these life updates for you guys and just writing down my feelings. Thank you for your continued love and support! Seriously so grateful for all of you.

I can’t believe it’s officially fall! It’s still 80 degrees in northern Utah but I’ve been stocking up on my favorite staples for fall. Today on the blog I wanted to share one of our recently favorite recipes! I made this fried ice cream last minute for Hunter’s soccer team and it was so easy. I had to serve over 50 people, so I ordered all the ingredients from Walmart so I could stay on budget + you all know how much I love my groceries delivered right to my door!
FRIED ICE CREAM RECIPE
: INGREDIENTS
For this recipe you only need 5 ingredients! I use all Great Value ingredients from Walmart. Using Great Value ingredients from Walmart not only helps me save money but also offers the highest quality!
1 cube melted butter
1/2 cup coconut flakes
2/3 cup of brown sugar
2 1/2 cup of rice crisps
1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream
: INSTRUCTIONS
First mix together the 1 cube melted butter, 1/2 cup of coconut flakes, and 2/3 cup of brown sugar in a large bowl. Then add the 2 1/2 cup of rice crisps into the bowl. Then, spread this mixture on a cookie sheet and bake at 300 for 20 minutes. Make sure you turn/stir it every 5 minutes.
Now, put 1/2 of this crispy mixture on the bottom of a 9×13 baking pan and then spread 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream over it. Then put the other half of the crispy mixture on top of the ice cream. After this is done, put it in the freezer until ready to serve.
[I would definitely recommend doubling this recipe]
: SERVING
For Hunter’s soccer team, I served the fried ice cream in individual scoops using paper ice cream cups and plastic spoons. I also brought caramel and chocolate syrup from Walmart that they could use as toppings. It’s seriously so yummy with caramel sauce on top!
. . .
I hope you all love this recipe as much as my family does! With the holidays coming, and having to cook and bake for big groups, Walmart is my go-to place where I feel like I can buy the private brands like Great Value and not feel like I’m trading down value.
When I think about Fall, a few things always come to mind. Cozy sweaters, pumpkin patches, and for a lot of us- family pictures! Family pictures are so special to have, but I think just about everyone can agree that family pictures bring out allll the emotions. Whether it’s the stress of outfit planning, the toddler (or husband) tantrum, or even feeling a little sentimental, they are full of emotions and can be a challenge. So today I’ve put together a list of my biggest tips to hopefully help your family pictures go a little smoother PLUS I’m sharing some outfit ideas for everyone in the family to help take some stress off of you!
If I could shout this one from the rooftops I would! It is so so important. By picking your own outfit first, you will guarantee that you feel confident + comfortable. When you feel good about yourself you’ll love your pictures more!! Trust me on this one.
If I’m being honest, all of our last-minute pictures where I’ve had to throw random outfits together that necessarily don’t match perfectly always end up the best. Figure out a main color palette, and then focus more on everyone being comfortable instead!
Timing can be the difference between smooth sailing and a total melt down! Try to do a time when you know your baby or toddler will be happy. Like right after nap time or dinner. I think this helps the mom’s stress level a million times. Also, make sure your people are all fed and not hungry because that makes a huge difference with their moods.
: GET THE MONEY SHOT FIRST
If there is a shot you have in mind that you have to have, do it very first. Usually for us, it’s the full family shot. Get the must haves out of the way in the first 5 minutes. You never know when someone is going to lose it so be sure you take the pictures you want first!
: BRIBERY WORKS
I see absolutely nothing wrong with bribes for family pictures!! I usually have skittles or goldfish for the kids in Joe’s pocket and will pop one in the kids mouth here and there when they are listening. AND, tell your kids they can get a reward like ice cream or a night at the park if they will listen to the photographer without a fuss. It always helps and we really go and do it afterwards, because who doesn’t need ice-cream after all of this craziness?!
: DON’T FORGET ABOUT CANDIDS
A lot of our stress comes from getting that perfect shot and how they will turn out. But the more family pictures I’ve done, the more I realize my favorite pictures are always the unplanned candid shots. Let them have fun and let loose yourself too! The little personality quirks they have are what you always want to remember anyway. Natural happiness is always going to be the images you end up wanting to blow up huge!
. . .
Now let’s talk outfits!! Picking family picture outfits can be SO stressful and is probably the thing we dread most about them! I’ve rounded up some of my favorites for the whole family below!

We’ve been homeschooling Hayden and Hudson for 3 weeks now, so I wanted to share an update about how we are all feeling about it so far! I totally felt crazy when school started. We were dealing with selling our house, moving into the rental, and had a lot going on. But, a ton of people reached out to me and just encouraged me to stick with it. One lady told me that homeschooling is like having a newborn baby, and that is seriously the greatest analogy! You’re so excited for your newborn but then when you’re up with it all night, you’re kind of like “crap, what do we do?”. There have definitely been moments where I don’t know what I’m doing or even why I’m doing this, but then I’m always reminded throughout the day of the blissfulness of homeschool.
OUR HOMESCHOOL UPDATE
: OUR SCHEDULE
Both Hudson and Hayden wake up around 7:45. While I am taking the younger kids to school, Hayden starts her Savvy reading at 8:00, then she hops on Prodigy at 8:30. When Hudson wakes up, he goes downstairs to work out and then gets his keyboarding/typing lesson done. When I get home at 9:00, Hayden, Hudson, and I will just chat. We’ll also do a history lesson if we need to. Joe had 2 random days off of work, so I had him teach history which was such a relief to have a break. Then at 10:00, I usually have work meetings, so Hayden’s teacher comes Monday-Thursday from 10:00-11:30 and teaches her the core subjects… english, math, science, and language arts. It has been a huge relief for me that I don’t have to teach her the core stuff. She’s really into fashion design, so I talk to her about that. While Hayden is with her teacher, Hudson is doing reading, writing, and guitar in his room. Then I take Hudson to school at 11:30. He goes to lunch at school and also takes 3 core classes there too. I pick up Harper form school after dropping Hudson off. When we get home, me, Hayden, and Harper all make and eat lunch together! That has been such a great advantage of homeschooling for Hayden… getting to eat whatever she wants! She’s been creative with making herself meals, smoothies, etc. After lunch, I help Harper with her homework while Hayden does her times tables and finishes her homework from her teacher.
Hayden’s teacher only comes Monday-Thursday and her Savvy reading is also only Monday-Thursday, so Friday’s are usually pretty laid back. We usually just snuggle and read together in the mornings and then we’re done. So we both love Friday’s!
So that’s our homeschool daily routine. It has been so nice because after homeschool, Hayden is free to go play and go to gymnastics. It was always a huge battle with Hayden when she would get home from public school because she would be tired and ornery, but still have to do her reading, spelling, and homework. So it’s such a relief that we don’t have to deal with that anymore.
We are using The Good and The Beautiful program to teach history. I bought the book and I just read out of it for the lessons. There is no preparation for the lessons and the kids have audibles that they can listen to too. You can also go to their website and print out the worksheets that go with the lesson. So far, the program has worked great. It has focused a lot about God and the bible, but I love that I can tweak it and teach whatever I want while integrating it with our religion.
: HOW HUDSON + HAYDEN FEEL ABOUT HOMESCHOOL
Hudson is enjoying his half/half schedule. He still gets to see his friends and go to lunch, so he’s been fine with everything. He has talked about switching his schedule for the second half of the year and going to public school in the mornings and coming home in the afternoons so he can have time to go skiing. Hayden is still getting used to homeschool. She comes with me when I pick up the younger kids from school, and so she’ll hop out and say hi to her friends. She sometimes mentions that she wants to go back to school. Nothing is set in stone, so we’re keeping an open mind. We are trying out homeschooling until October, and then we will reevaluate. We are still getting into the groove of homeschooling.
: SOME HOMESCHOOL SUPPLY FAVORITES
. . .
I am obviously still trying to get settled into this homeschooling thing! But I’m being very gentle with myself and not expecting a ton. I know many of you have been interested in our homeschooling journey, so I hope you enjoyed this update!

Hey guys! It’s Hunter here with another Teen Takeover. Today I wanted to share my thoughts about being the oldest child and how I keep strong relationships with each of my siblings. Even though we don’t always get along, I really am thankful for them and know that they are the ones who will always be there for me. So, I’ve learned that it’s important to create memories with them and make the most of the couple years left I have at home with them!
I like being the oldest, but I also don’t like it sometimes. I like being the oldest because I get to do more than the other kids, like staying out later and things like that. BUT, I’m basically a lab rat for my parents. My parents have never raised another teenager so it’s like they’re testing everything out on me. So they can be really strict and that makes me pretty mad sometimes… but overall, I like being the oldest. I guess you could say there is a “privilege” that comes with being the oldest, so I make sure I’m responsible and being a good example to my siblings.
: MY RELATIONSHIP WITH HUDSON
Hudson is such good brother. We have a great relationship with each other because we are always talking and messing around with each other! But we’ve had to build trust to get there. I really trust Hudson, so I’ll tell him things and he’ll tell me things. We are really comfortable with each other so that has definitely helped us develop trust in our relationship. And I think that’s probably the most important part of any relationship.
: HAYDEN
My relationship with Hayden is really strong. We are constantly talking and telling each other our secrets. We have this thing called the “sister trust” and we’ll do our little handshake when we know we can’t tell anyone else besides each other. That has really helped us bond together as sisters. You need someone you can trust, so I’m so glad I have Hayden. The main thing about our relationship though, is that we are always laughing when we are together! We genuinely love spending time together.
: HOUSTON
Houston is honestly like my little twin! He’s my little buddy. We are always teasing and roasting each other, which always leads to laughing together! He is the funniest kid and super competitive too. I think the biggest thing I’ve learned about growing strong relationships with my siblings is to do stuff with them that they like to do. For Houston, I’ll read with him, help him with his math, and play games on the phone with him. It’s the little things!
: HARPER
I stay close with Harper by giving her my time. We’re about 10 years apart and she’s the youngest so there is not much we have in common, but I really try to spend quality time with her. I make sure I play games with her and not only activities, but just talk to her. Even though she’s young, I love when I have a conversation with her! She knows my friends and talks about them so that’s really fun. Our favorite thing to do is take pictures together and that’s such a simple thing to do, but it creates memories and I want her to remember me living at home.
. . .
I am so grateful for my siblings. I love being their oldest sister and always want to be a person they can trust! Thanks for reading! If you’re interested in any of my other Teen Takeovers, I’ll link them here.
